Subject: Those Old Early '00s
Written By: Donnie Darko on 02/21/06 at 5:05 pm
I've been thinking about this lately ... 2000 and 2001 are a long time ago. I mean really, the ten year old of 2001 is like 15 today. Haley Joel Osment, the kid in Sixth Sense (1999) is almost a legal adult. It's hard for me to think of anything after the mid nineties to me even remotely old, but man, the early '00s have gotten some years.

The very early '00s are aging, songs from 2000 are now "back in the day" songs are the radio station I listen to, the technology has aged a lot (of course). The time has really gone by fast. 2001 is now 5 years ago.

2001 was such a changeful year, that 2000 and early '01 seem like a very long time ago. 2002, on the other hand could pass for today. I'd say 2000 was closer to 1997 than to 2002.

Yea 2000 was very late '90s, whereas 2002 was more like the mid '00s. 2001 is kind of in between, it really wasn't exactly late '90s style but it wasn't quite full '00s yet either.

I think the '00s began like immediately after 9/11, when I was in 6th grade. 00-01, my 5th grade year, still felt pretty '90s, even if it was a dying '90s in decline.

Are you TRIPPIN? :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
The 00'S factually began on January 1st, 2000! Look, I know that the early part of one decade can seem/feel like the previous decade, but the fact is, the new decade begins on January 1st, ___0 (the underscores can be filled in with any digits), even if the pop culture/events still hang(s) on. Nothing changes overnight.
Enough of these inane posts already!

All you have to do is look at the digit that appears in the ten's column! It should be blatantly obvious! >:( ::)
Duh.

Yeah 2000/early '01 are probably the last years that seem a good ways back to me. As corny as it sounds the 2000's really started for me on June 15,2001 when someone really close to me died. Up till then I still kind of felt like a kid but that coupled in with the fact that I had not too long turned 13 just seemed to change my whole carefree attitude about life. Then 9/11 happened and everything changed.

Actually some experts contend that the year ending in 0 is the last year of the previous decade and the year ending in 1 is the real first year of the decade.

The more I think about it a lot of the late '90s stuff was already gone by like mid 2001 or so. Early '01 was still somewhat late '90s like, but by late '01 it was definitely the '00s by then.

2002 was the first year that was distinctly '00s as a whole. Crunk and glam rap were firmly placed by then and the emo trend emerged.

Yeah 2001 was the year that killed of the late-90's stuff just like 1991 killed off alot of the 80's trends. Likewise '02 was the first year with the real 2000's vibe just like '92 was for the 90's.

I can't believe it myself! My nephew was born in '00, and he's going to be 6! I was in my mid-20s around then, and will be turning middle-age in a few days. I must be getting old because tt just seems like yesterday. And the music from then still doesn't sound outdated to me as many people find (I only notice music sounding outdated that's from '94 and earlier :-[ )

I dont think music from '00-'01 sounds outdated just yet it is starting to show some age though.

Some songs sound outdated, but others don't. "Let Me Blow Ya Mind" by Eve doesn't really sound outdated, but No More (Baby I'm a do right) by 3LW sounds very late '90s. Santana's "Smooth" from late 1999 really doesn't sound outdated either. "There You Go" by Pink does sound outdated though. Late '90s pop has a distinct kind of upbeat sound. '00s pop is more hip-hop sounding.

I remember when that song by 3LW was huge I agree though it does sound late 90's
