Subject: cheney Shoots Buddy on Hunting Trip
Written By: danootaandme on 02/12/06 at 4:59 pm
dick shot a hunting buddy with a shotgun yesterday during a quail(or is it quayle) hunting trip. They kept it out of the news until today.
Having been in a gun club and learned the basics of hunting I would say that he should have his license revoked, and be charged with
reckless endangerment. The guy is alive(so they say) so he has escaped manslaughter(so far)

The AOL newsservice says that medical help was there because Cheney travels with an emergency medical team. Medicaid is working
very well....for him.

yeah, i guess if you're gonna get shot it's a lucky break if you happen to get shot by someone with an entourage of specialists who follow him around. sorta like getting run over by an ambulance.

Between the "arrest Cheney!," the refusing still to capitalize his or Bush's name and the overall hype not seen on any news network over this, the kool-aid drinkers are out in full force.

Well let's face it, cheney, who is an experienced hunter, shooting someone is a story, especially on a weekend when the best story that they can come up with is about a skier in Torino who said he has been admitted skiing wasted(who cares as long as he brings home the gold). I have hunted and know how to use guns, anyone with cheneys experience who shoots someone should be sanctioned. I say that about anyone who fires without knowing there backstop, or where his fellow hunters are before he shoots. If you think any hunter should get a pass after shooting a fellow hunter than I would say it is more than Kool-Aid you have been drinking.

You people are just eating this up, aren't ya? When all the circumstances of this were revealed today, it is very easy to understand how this happened. The "big cover-up conspiracy" you all hope for just ain't there people. The guy was standing in a low spot in high grass with sun at his back. His vest wasn't visible. Believe it or not, Quail do fly horizontal. They are not a high-altitude bird. They nest on the ground. The gun was a 28-gauge, fired at a range of around 30 yards with small birdshot. That's like getting hit by a decent air rifle. The shot barely broke the skin.
The Federal Government is under no obligation to inform the general public of incidents that do not involve or endanger them. Right to privacy , you all heard of that.
Here's a tip: Those who talk only bad about others usually have nothing good to say about themselves. Tip #2: If you want a Liberal in the White House so bad, try running one that can win the electoral college. :P ::)

Someone seems a bit touchy. You must not be a hunter since you don't know about safety standards used by serious hunters, which cheney purported to be. Any real hunter knows that what cheney did is not acceptable by any means. You may be of the opinion that a Federal Government, acting in a patronizing manner, isn't under any obligation to inform the general public of incidents that they decide do not involve or endanger them, but luckily we have the free press so that we, as hopefully educated adults, can decide for ourselves whether or not to laugh our asses off. In this case we have decided to do just that ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Since you are an experienced hunter, maybe you could answer a question for me: What would happen to the average, ordinary American citizen if they did they were involved in a (non-fatal) hunting accident similar to the one that Mr. Cheney was involved in? Would there be any legal repercussions? Could they be brought up on charges, perhaps like some type of criminal negligence?

Yeah, sure. It's perfectly all right if Dick Cheney f**ks up and endangers someone's life, yet if Al Gore had done the exact same thing while he was VP I'm sure that you would have been demanding his immediate removal from office and that he serve time in a federal prison for attempted murder. (Just as I'm sure that most of the people here who are piling on Mr. Cheney would have tried to defend Gore in the same way that you're trying to excuse Cheney's actions.) Make all the excuses that you like, the bottom line is that a man made a stupid mistake that could have very easily killed a man.
This is exactly why I think partisan politics is such horsesh*t.
And no, I don't think this story is funny. Mr. Cheney, because of his mistake, injured a friend of his, and I'm sure he must feel awful about it.

Which is unusual, because it's usually "right-hand" that does the "spanking."
(Someone had to say it.)

I wouldn't say I'm experienced. I tried it a couple of times but don't have the heart to pull the trigger. I know a lot of very experienced hunters though and they say that, first of all, you don't shoot quail close to the ground, they are well above the height of a man. Of course what cheney and company were doing wasn't actually hunting. They were on a little jaunt were they birds are practically domesticated, released at a specific time and place. On average, in a case like this, your license would be pulled, you wouldn't be able to get one retroactively, in fact you might lose priviledges for at least a season. You could be brought up on charges, such as negligence, and you would be given a breathalyzer at the scene, which could be why they kept it under wraps. In a lot of cases prosecution is about 25 years behind the times. Hunters get away with things in much the same way drunk drivers used to, but they don't get anywhere near the free pass given in this case. Also, if this happened in Massachusetts, if the person dies of the injuries within one year the person responsible can be tried accordingly(murder, manslaughter,)

Still, Cheney shot someone. He should have been more careful, he should have looked before he shot...and the birdshot penetrated the guy's body. The victim actually had a mild heart attack, he got the s*it scared outta him!
Cheney + firearms= trouble!
