Subject: So many cable channels out today!!
Written By: Carl on 01/17/06 at 12:50 pm
We have digital, and it's amazing how many different channels out! Let's see what we have, some names I don't get:
The Oxygen Chennel (O)
Hallmark
The N channel
Boom
HBO 1, 2, 3 etc.
What's the lyrics of some song: 57 channels and nothing on!

Not to mention those channels that have a fireplace going or fish swimming around for hours upon countless hours.

TV sure has come along way. I can still remember when I was a kid, we had an old Zenith TV that only had a 13 channel memory. Back then, there wasn't a whole lot of choices. You had your 3 major networks (ABC, NBC and CBS), plus (for us Canadians), CBC and CTV

Oxygen is an all-women's channel(a breath of oxygen for them, perhaps)
Hallmark is the channel by the company of the same name
The N, I think, is the teenagers' side of Noggin, which is the station created by Nickelodeon and children's televison workshop(The N has some nice stuff actually, but it's meant for teens; it's better for them than MTV by a longshot)
Boom, I don't know
HBO 1, 2, 3, Familly, etc.. good for playing more movies you might've missed, and instead of waiting for a movie to come on the first one... but it is a lot.

Darn tooting.
I think I watched just as much TV when I had 50+ channels than I do now (with just 7 channels)

It's by Bruce Springsteen, and oddly enough..... he is right! ;D
I bought a bourgeois house in the Hollywood hills
With a trunkload of hundred thousand dollar bills
Man came by to hook up my cable TV
We settled in for the night my baby and me
We switched

I am one of the people who has held out against cable. 57 channels nothing on says it right, and paying extra every month for it. I watch too much with the channels I have now.

One thing I hate is how cable providers put the channels you want in a package with other channels you don't want.

I just have basic cable, and that's enough for me. Actually, I originally posted we, my mom has digital.

I wish you could customize your cable selections better, at least what most companies call the expanded package. That way you would only have to pay for the channels you watch. For instance, I watch the most cable news channels, but not CNBC or CNN Headline News. I watch TNT, but not HGTV (Home and Garden TV). I'd keep TV Land, but dump Nickelodeon. I used to watch Discovery quite a lot, but since it became the Redneck Greasemonkey channel, I'd rather not get it.

Yes, but they all suck save movie channels and "LOST".
The only things people care about keeping on the air are "South Park", "The Simpsons" and Reality TV.

I already get many of my channels ala-carte through my satellite provider. I only need to have a subscription for 1 or 2 services, depending on the channel. Some channels are free with any subscription.
Why the cable companies can't do this is beyond me. Could it be because they are franchised? Neah, probably just greedy. ::)

Some of these channels though seem redundant or under used. For instance take Discovery Science or DiscoveryTimes channels. There are some days that they play the same 2 shows for almost 2 straight days!
