Subject: Will the 2010s still be like the 1990s?

Written By: Donnie Darko on 01/09/06 at 2:25 pm

I'll say "You Never Know".  I sure hope not, but it's 2006 and there's still '90ish stuff around.  And some of it, such as Mariah Carey, is showing no signs of departure.

The 2000's are nothing like the 90's and the 2010's will be totally different from the 2000's.

I partially agree.  The 1990s really had a different feeling than the 2000s, but you gotta admit a lot of music and fashion is sameish.  I still see people in Grunge gear now and then, and when Mariah Carey has 3 songs that are similar to her '90s stuff in the top 100 you know there's some holdover.

I do think the 2010s will be different though, maybe even the late 2000s.  2006 will change things, I know it.  But you never know.

We Belong Together/ Don't Forget About Us both feel like mid '90s R&B in a way, but they're actually mid '00s songs. Actually a number of songs from 2005 have a bit of a mid '90s sound. The early/ mid '90s do have a somewhat different feel, but once you get to about 1996 or 97 it doesn't seem all that different in a lot of ways.

Exactly my thoughts. 1990-1994 are really closer culturally to the '80s than today, 1995-97 is kind of the turning point.  1997, 1998, and 1999 are practically identical to 2006.

I think by about 2013 there will be something truly different, but there will still be '90s-type stuff around.  I just think decade backlashes don't really happen anymore.

But I do think that by the mid-2010s the '00s will be seen as a campy, disgusting decade.

Idk about Mariah, I kinda like some of her songs like I said before, but I think I've gotten sick of her. Don't Forget About Us now makes me nauseous when I hear it. I thought music was getting somewhat better back in the spring, but looking at the current no.1 (Laffy Taffy), I guess not, lol.

I agree with you 100%. I remember the early 90's prettly clearly. Unfortunately I can remember as far as late 1992, but I remember some Grunge, music, movies, etc. Most of that I saw my big brother do.

The 2000's is my first full decade that I can entirely remember. The Boy Band craze in my opinion was like a tornado. It hit unexpectingly and dissapated spontaniously. As for the mid 2000's (2004-2006?), it's a variety. The two most dominate music styles would probably be hip-hop and rock sung by 13 year olds. I actually predict that 2006 will change gradualy, but stay in the 2005 area. I also predict that McDonald's will give that "I'm Lovin' It" slogan the ol' heave ho and come out with a slightly better one.

I don't really know what to say about the 2010's. We still haven't hit the late 2000's yet, so it's hard to say.

I think that there has to be a major shift soon...we've gone too long without one.
