I'd say "Somewhat 90ish".

2005 was so far from the 90's, you'd need a million pairs of binoculars just to see 2001 ;D

And 2006 shall be even further from the 90s... :o
1990 is nearly 20 years ago!

4 more years and 90s nostalgia!
Now THAT will be weird, 4 years and THIRTY years ago will be the Eighties! 2002 became '06 so fast!
Time does go by fast.

In the year 2990, 1990 will officially be 100 years ago. I wonder if we will make it that long to see it happen :o

Noticably less so than any of the other "00s". I think 2006 may be the first "truely 00s" year of the 00s. ;D

True, although Mariah and Green Day made a '90s presence.

Probably a little less "90s" than 2004 even, so it definitely was different. It sure wasn't like the Grunge era, and even feels removed from 1997 and '98, but it was still somewhat 1999-ish.
Is it just me, or did things really "level off" around the middle of the year? It started out promising, with Green Day's comeback, and synth/indie rock, and some good movies, but you almost get the feeling the powers that be had kind of a "ahh, nevermind. Let's just go back to the formulatic stuff"-approach in the latter half of the year. Heck, pop culture almost regressed as the year went on.
Music still feels like it's in a deep freeze since 2001 (with minor exceptions of course).
As I've said, I believe the present time is more "2000's" in the sense that it's simply "less 90s". In other words, the stuff from then is getting further and further away, but still hasn't been totally replaced or wiped off the map by anything that completely screams 2000's.
(Much like 1971-75, in that the "counterculture/hippie" era was over, but the feel of the time was still pretty "60s" in general. The 70's didn't really kick in until about '76, so before then, the 60's and 70's blended together. Same with the 90's and 2000-05)
You could probably still wear clothes from 1998 and it wouldn't stand out too much. Sure, the commercials for Old Navy (ya know, the older lady with glasses, that was so omnipresent!) and "fall into the Gap" look kinda dated now, as do those fashions, but not laughably so. Not the way 1989 fashion looked by, say 1992.
2005 was still what I'd call a "1999 with a continuous makeover". It's newer and updated, but not totally gone yet. But we're only three days into the new year. It's too soon to say now. ;)
Overall, I think as a whole, we're lazier with pop culture and fashion. Of course, I should never say never, but let's face it -- the "teen culture" and everything that defines it (rock music, rebellion, movies, fashion, slang) has been around for half a century. For better or worse, we're running out of immediate ideas I think.
I don't think you can expect those quick changes in a couple months anymore. Everything is gonna go slower. The "90s" will be completely gone by the early 2010's probably.

I voted a little 90-esque because the latest Sugababes single Ugly is quite 90s pop sounding as is Westlife's You Raise Me Up.

You're not wrong about how pop culture seemed to regress in the latter half of '05. I think it was Mariah Carey's comeback that did it, after then things became more '99ish again.
When Green Day came back in '04 things really started going off. People may think of Green Day as very '90s but they're actually quite unlike any other bands and stylistically opened the floodgates for a Neo-Wave movement and also the very 2000s pop-punk movement (I know it was around in the late '90s but I rest my case: it is quite '00s).
2006, I think, will be the changeful year. But who knows anymore ???

Pops always been around every year, it's just changing. I think the Sugababes do good in their genre, their inventive with their music, so I have to disagree with it sounding a little 90s-esque.
As for Westlife...that's a cover, a cover of a terrible terrble song. Every Westlife song sounds like the previous, so as they all sound the same, their first dates back to 1998 I think - so i guess that's 90s-esque! ::)

Let me explain the difference between 1995 and 2005.
Here are some time travel directions to 1995 from 2005:
1. Turn on to Past Intertime 40 and stay on it for about 50 miles.
2. In 2002, take Exit 278 onto Past Intertime 98 and go for another 150 miles.
3. At milepost 0, you'll enter the 90' and 1999. Continue on Past Intertime 98 for another 225 miles.
4. In 1997, take Exit 192 onto Past Intertime 24 and stay on it for another 65 miles.
5. After the 65 miles, you'll finally arrive in 1995. Whew.
Total Mileage: About 400 miles.
As you can tell from the long and confusing directions, 2005 is nothing like the 90's. The music's bad, television's gone reality, and even more.

In ways it was a little 90ish, but the whole decade is. But the hip-hop enviroment still controls the music scene, sitcoms are nothing close to the sitcoms of the '90s. At times I thought things were starting to go in a different direction in 2005, but then I was quickly reminded that the current styles were here to stay.

We might have to wait until 2009 for things to noticeably change from the late 90s. 1999 was the year I first heard the 80s being talked about as "retro", "nostalgia", "classic", or whatever. Before 1999 the 80s were kinda thought of just a few years ago, because well it was. The 80s were not thought of as this really long time ago pre-1999 like it is today.
So if we apply that to today, then we are only 3 years away from when you will see some kid born in 1993 (who will be 16 then) talk about the 90s as nostalgia.

2005 was a a big change from 2004, and it was the end of the late 90's/early 2000's styles (just like how 1989 was a big change from 1988). 2005 is the beginning of a new and unique era of styles and fads which will probably die down around 2009, then grunge will come back.
