Subject: Pop Charts Suggest Rise of Hip Hop is Responsible for Fall of Rock and Roll

Here's a chart showing the approximate number of songs on Top 100 of each year that are rock and that are rap.
It should be noted that the chart is in favor of rap as rap is closer in spirit to pop; thus the years are generally more rock-oriented than implied by charts.
Years Rap Beat Rock: 1993, 1994, 1995 (tie), 1996, 1997, 1998, 2001 (tie), 2003, 2004
Years Rock Beat Rap: 1980-1992, 1995 (tie), 1999, 2000, 2001 (tie), 2002

Interestingly, in the late 90s and 2000 rap experienced a dip in popularity; it has only been at current levels for about 3 years.
It could generally be said that 1992-2001 was equal ground for rock and hip hop, while rock ruled pre-1992 and rap post-2001.

It's funny because I can't seem to remember many hit Rap Songs from 1999 at all
And i'm surprised that there were only 7 Rock Songs Total on the Top 100 during 1998?? Wow, I could have sworn that Rock ruled 1998 in terms of music popularity

The rise of hip-hop is responsible for the fall of any semblance of good taste and manners left in our culture.

Oh sure, all the TV pundits, the general public and everybody on Capitol Hill is listening to hip-hop. ::)

Well, that's disturbing because so much of it is pornographic and misogynistic. No wonder so many college chicks will participate in those smutty videos for a pittance.

Oh, blah, blah, blah, blah, life goes on tastes change, that is the way it is and always be. They said
the same thing when the Waltz came in, and Jazz, and Rock and Roll, and Punk. If you don't like it do
what I do, DON'T LISTEN.

It's true. They did call Ragtime "the devil's music" in about 1895!
Devo were right, we are devolving. Hopefully 2012 will change that.
