Subject: Jermaine Dye is a liar
Written By: Meghan88 on 10/26/05 at 8:01 pm
Who else thinks that Jermaine Dye should've fessed up when he KNEW the ball didnt hit him? I dont care what kind of call the umpire made, if he knew the ball didnt hit him he shouldve said something!
And if you watch the replays, you can clearly see that the ball hit the barrel of the bat. You can also see Jermaine Dye turning around to the umpire to see if he could walk.......cmon now, If the knew the ball hit him he would've already started walking, why would he need to see what the umpire said? I think what he did was so wrong...It basically cost the Astros Game 2. Baseball is just all about winning or losing now, its not even about how u play the game.
Oh and as far as his little confession went (the commercial they showed b4 game 3) I could care less cause it was way too late by then....Wait to go Dye!

He didn't have to do anything, the final say is up to the umpire.
And the HBP didn't cost the Astros the game. The manager cost them the game by letting Qualls pitch to Konerko instead of putting Lidge in for a near-automatic save, and even then, Konerko still had to hit the slam.

Based on what I'm hearing from other people, since the ball hit his bat it would've been considered a strike. Did they not already have 2 outs? and wasnt the count 3-2?

Even IF it were counted as a strike, he would have continued the at-bat since on two strikes, you cannot strike out on a foul ball or check swing (only on a bunt attempt). The point is, the umpires make the final decision, whether it is the right one or not, and NO player, not an Astro, not a White Sox, will admit to an umpire error if it allows them to capitalize.
And again, the Astros still had an opportunity to get out of the jam, but didn't. Jermaine Dye helped, but didn't seal the win in that game.

Of course, the Grand and Noble Chicago White Sox would never do anything so devious as bribing the umpires.

^ I'll ask Marty McFly to get Doc to fix the Delorean so you can go back to 1919.

You probably would have changed the wind patterns so that instead of the phantom strikeout, Pierzynski would have hit a walk off homer. Darn space-time continuum.
