Britney is not even in the spotlight musically anymore. She was overrated probably when she was really popular musically in 1999-2000. I mean they comparred her to Madonna then. I;m not Madonna's biggest fan but Britney is no Madonna thats for sure.

Nelly or Ja Rule. Their not bad people but I just think they are talented. I don;t like Ja Rule's voice. The guy from Likin Park his voice I don't like it all. I was both sad and happy to hear Depeche Mode was one of the bands influences. I was happy because somebody actually takes notice on how Depeche Mode was a talented band in the 80's and 90's. I was sad because I don't think Linkin Park is a standout band.

I have to disagree with you about Gwen Stefani...she's nowhere near as 'full of herself' as Avril Lavigne or Ashlee "Bimbo" Simpson!

It seems to me that people hate rappers cause what they rap about is not all sunshine, peace, and love....Show me ONE rapper who sings about these things...that has respect with young blacks as well as whites...one shining example from TODAY, please? And no rap-rockers. Strictly RAP ARTISTS.

Never could quite get into Stevie Nick's voice. Although I like about 4 Fleetwood Mac songs.

Been reading through this thread (hey, sometimes it's fun to see what people hate! Especially if they think similarly to me, it makes me feel better!). I agree with a ton of the choices, but as a classic rock fan who grew up listening to them, I gotta defend the Beatles, Journey and Tom Petty in this post!

However, the ones you guys all mentioned that I don't like totally make up for it. :) ;D

I've gotta partially agree. Of all the Fleetwood Mac members, I think solowise, she's my least favorite (the only solo songs of hers I like are "Stand Back" - a good rocker by her standards with a dance groove, and the mid-paced hits "Talk to Me" and "If Anyone Falls in Love").

She was better as a part of FMac - my fave from her there is probably "Gypsy".

For those four good songs though, there's many more she does I never could get into. I can't stand hearing "Landslide" on the radio a gajillion times - no disrespect to those who like it, but I can't see its appeal. Another example of the "stripped down" sound that I've never been a fan of.

If there's anything I'm really torn on, it's bands like this - and the members who form them! I'll give 'em all credit that, judging from their teenage-like nature, humorous lyrics, fashion sense and what they seem to be interested in (eg: video games, girls, the 80's), I think they'd be cool guys to hang out with, but I agree about the repetitivity and whiny-ness of their music.

Seriously, want to know what I think all these bands should do?

Put out EP's instead of these 17 or 18 song albums where every track sounds mostly the same. Just like in the 60's through the first half of the 80's, when albums were short - that was perfect, left you wanting more. 8)

If there were only, say 4 to 7-8 songs on there, it wouldn't have a chance to get that "samey" sounding.

They've all got some individual songs that are catchy and fun (eg: 1985, Stacy's Mom, Swing Swing) but the problem is, after 17 carbon copies of that, any "fun" that was there gets majorly headache-y annoying. Yes, I have listened to some of those CDs start to finish! ;)

Wrecking a classic song is the very same reason why I hate The Space Lady for making a crappy and s**tty version of Major Tom (Coming Home) which was originally done Peter Schilling. Like anyone who does a extreme mediocre and terrible version of a big hit, she should have never remade the song in the first place. Same goes for Disturbed and 311 who made bad versions of a Cure classic (311 did a crappy remake of Lovesong) and a Tears For Fears hit (Disturbed remade it as "Shout 2000")!

Chris De Burgh was pretty godawful (don't forget, "Don't Pay the Ferryman"!) but he's pretty much out of the picture at this point, I mean, there's no CDB media saturation.  You might hear "Lady In Red" while you're browsing the frozen foods section, but that's about it!
Whereas, The Dave Matthews Bland just won't f. off!  I saw them on display at Starbucks just a couple of days ago.  We usually go to the independent coffeehouse, but my friend wanted one of those abominable coffee-sundae things they make at Starbucks.  Anyway, no offense intended if you're a Dave Matthews fan.

I'm into a few (3 or 4) of their songs. Flag those ones and they sound very bland and boring.

Another 90s band that just keeps coming back with albums worse than the previous ones: Matchbox 20.  :P

You're perfectly right here. And not just about "emo". Ever since the CD began to replace the vinyl album, bands and artists have seemed to feel obliged to make longer and longer records. CDs cost the same whether they have 8 good songs and run for 36 minutes or 15 average songs and run for 79. It's not value for money putting 17 songs on an album if 13 of them are rubbish.

Maybe if you get a brain tumor, cancer ,AIDS, or born in a third world country I would have some sympathy, but singing for 4 minutes about how you ran out of milk and couldn't finish your cereal while the girl/guy you like is banging the football player/cheerleader because you just sit in the back of class carving life sucks into your arm over your poorly writen poetry or some other pointless dribble makes me sick. If your life is just to damn hard do us all a favor and hop out of the pool.

Those are not bad remakes. The 311 remake of The Cure doesn;t really wreck the original version. Disturbed's version of Tears For Fears I have only heard part of it. I don't thiink its that bad from what I have heard of it.

Thank goodness I've never heard any of those because I LOVE those songs and would hate to hear crappy remakes of them :P


I'm a really big fan of Peter Schilling, Tears 4 Fears and The Cure and that was why I really hated those remakes. When I first heard that Major Tom remake by The Space Lady, I put Peter's original version on after so I could get rid of the memory of having heard the remake! Doesn't help that she left the word wife in!

I can deal with Henley's solo stuff ("Boys of Summer" is a guilty pleasure), but Glenn Frey's solo output was tooootallly lame, "Sexy Girl," and "Smuggler's Blues" especially. 
I always liked the way "Boys of Summer" was put together instrumentally, and I like how the lyrics are just an unabashed collection of rock 'n' roll cliches.  I like Bryan Adams' "Summer of '69" for the same reasons!

Styx were annoying in their day, especially "Babe."  But these days they're fun to hear because they're so campy!  You know, songs like "Come Sail Away," "Too Much Time on My Hands," "Mr. Roboto," I'll always rock out to those!

A seventies megagroup I'll never be able to tolerate is Supertramp.  I can't stand those lamby little voices and the uber-pretentious tunes.

I despise Kiss.  I especially despise Gene Simmons.  He's the biggest has-been @zzhole of rock 'n' roll besides Ted Nugent.  One time Peter Criss and Paul Stanley were dumping on disco on VH1.  They were saying, "All those disco songs were just about the cool things you were gonna do that night.  Yeah."  Excuse me?  One of your biggest hits went, "I wanna rock 'n' roll all night, and party every day!"  And you DID make a disco record in 1979 because you were on Casablanca Records.  Casablanca was the biggest disco label.  Rather than risk a lucrative contract for your integrity, you knuckled under.  The result:  "I was made for lovin' you baby, you were made for lovin' me...etc. etc."
Kiss music alwasy reminds me of white trash kids necking in the backseats of Chevy Impalas, and why should it not?

I have to disagree with the disliking of Supertramp. I really like Supertramp - maybe not ALL of their stuff, but their "Breakfast in America" album is a lot of fun to listen to.

Glenn Frey had some better hits than "Smuggler's Blues" and "Sexy Girl." His 1982 hit "The One You Love" is great! And what about, "The Heat is On"... that's great, too!

I don't see the appeal of Dave Matthew's band either. Like Marty says, they are just too bland.. their music isn't clearly defined. And again, I think they appear as nice lads and all, but I just have no aching need to own a CD or song by them. Nothing of theirs stirs enough emotion in me to get spend that kind of money.

In the '80s I liked the ancestors of emo, such as The Smiths, The Violent Femmes, and The Cure.  Emo itself never appealed to me, maybe 'cuz I'm too O-L-D!

Hey "Say It Sin't So" wasn't bad. "Island In The Sun" was pretty cool too.

I'm probably gonna get raked over the coals for saying this, but I really can't stand the band RUSH.  I can listen to their songs, but that wouldn't be by choice  ;D

For me, pretty much 99.9% of anything currently in the Billboard Hot 100 or the Canadian Top 100 Charts within like the last 10 years or so I don't really like  :(

I dislike all like country music. I admit "From This Moment" by Shania Twain was a beautiful song but its a pop song and not country. I don't like Simple Plan though. I don't like Celine Dion buy I am sorry to admit I remember hearing her 1992 "If You Asked Me Too" when it came out and I actually like the song(brings back memories.) "If You Asked Me Too" was a cover of a Patti Labelle song however. I don't like rapper "Nelly" or Destiny's Child stuff from 1999 and up. I do think Beyonce is beautiful. I also find DC member Kelly Rowland attractive.

Normally I'm not at all into Celine Dion, but I too, liked a couple of her early songs. I used to watch VH1 alot in the earlier 90's and, since they appealed to a slightly older audience, they played more things like classic rock and love songs.

Anyway, she had three songs I liked - "If There Was any Other Way", "Where Does My Heart Beat Now", and "If You Asked Me to". These all kinda had an 80s pop shade to them, since it was all about 1991 when they came out, if I recall.

Yeah, the only song of theirs I know is "Clocks" and I totally agree - I never saw how so many people liked 'em either.

I didn't hate the song, but thought it sounded kinda depressing. That was only 2003 or so, and it already seems to have faded away, lol.

I also don't care for Coldplay, I first thought they were OK until I realized that most of their songs are too melodic and sound alike

As far as heavy metal is concerned...I like late 80's bands like Queensryche...and I like Megadeth rather than Metallica! And I agree about Nirvana...Alice in Chains and Soundgarden were both way better musically.

Both Britney and Kevin Federline are losers anyway. Both of them DESERVE each other. Britney thinks that flaunting her body equals talent. And Kevin is sleazy as well as disgusting. Just my opinion.

Miami Sound Machine were incredibly cheesy, but have you heard Mylo - Doctor Pressure/ It re-mixes 'Dr Beat' with 'Drop The Pressue' and it starngely works - I think it's great!

I actually have heard a similar thing from other people. When I saw his Behind the Music on VH1 some time ago, I got that impression myself too. Some performers "age" well (not really as much in looks, but more how they can perform live) and some don't. He just hasn't apparently.

That said, I do love a couple of his classic hits - "Show Me the Way" and especially "Baby I Love Your Way".

In the late 80's, he had a couple great (but pretty much unknown) albums where he sounded kinda like Journey. "Back to the Start" is my fave song of his from this period.

I instantly liked the pretty ballad about peace, called "Show Me the Way" and "Love is the Ritual" (which sounds alot like a Winger song) I heard a few times as well. The rest is pretty cool too.

Otherwise, I only like the few occasional hits, like "Too Much Time on My Hands".

BTW, I always dug that Adam Sandler was a fan (in Big Daddy and Billy Madison he's listening to them) - he's the sort of guy who can make something totally uncool become cool. ;)

Christina I liked "Genie In a Bottle" as a guilty pleasure(very noglastic sounding for late 90's music), Reflection, Nobody Wants To Be Lonely with Ricky Martin, and "Beautiful" had its moments. Christina I liked "Genie In a Bottle" as a guilty pleasure(very noglastic sounding for late 90's music), Reflection, Nobody Wants To Be Lonely with Ricky Martin, and "Beautiful" had its moments. I know Christina is part of the late 90's teen-pop phenomenon but I like some of her songs.

K.D. Lang I like "Constant Craving". Melissa Etheridge was big on Top 40 radio in 1994-1995.

Formerly of overrated New Wave band Oingo Boingo, now an overrated composer of film soundtracks.  Yeah, Elfman's music needs a Tim Burton movie because on its own it's as flat as pee on a plate!  They say he's worth sixty million so far, but ain't that Hollywood.

Mark Mothersbaugh--
I'm still a Devo fan, but Mothersbaugh put out everything he had that was worth hearing by 1984.  Then he did commercials, "Rugrats," and then sold out to Nike to get funding for a Devo reunion tour.
