Never. Guns N Roses could have been the biggest band ever, but because of him, they were only the biggest for five minutes.

I've been wating MANY years for this album to come out. We've only heard a few songs from it: 'Chinese Democracy', 'The Blues', 'Madagascar', Riyadh and the Beduoins', 'Silkworms', and 'IRS". The first 5 songs I mentioned were played live in 2002, and 'IRS' demo leaked on the net earlier this year. Its really sad what he is putting his fans through. Every year, there is a new excuse as to why its not coming out. I think if it doesn't come out by year's end, its never coming out.

Just heard from a friend that Chinese Democracy is supposed to be released on November 23rd. I looked it up and it sounds like they're serious this time, Guns N' Roses has a website with a countdown timer as well as the first single (also titled "Chinese Democracy"), which was released a few days ago.

I'll believe it when I see it, but the new single (IMO) is pretty good.
In a related story (I'm not making this up), the Dr Pepper company announced earlier this year that they'd give a free can of Dr Pepper to EVERYONE IN AMERICA if Guns N' Roses releases Chinese Democracy in 2008. They sound like they're ready to make good on their offer.

When gas is less than $3.00/gallon.
When AC/DC comes out with a new album.
When Duke Nukem Forever is released for the PC.
Hey, I can dream.

Didn't I download a song from Chinese Democracy a couple of years ago? It was called "Better". And it was...

I heard the new song on the radio, and it sounded unlike anything GnR ever did before. I wasn't impressed becuase to me, the song sounded just like any other rock song you hear on the radio, and in the golden days of GnR, they had a style that made their songs sound so unlike other songs at the time

Apparently it ended up costing $13 million to complete, which gives it the distinction of being the most expensive album ever made.
(Don't ask me why, I have no idea.)

Crap, I forgot. :-
Great album.
Very impressed.
I went out and bought it today but...it seems like an awful lot to take in. I kind of like it so far but I'll need to listen to it a few times to get used to it, if that makes any sense. But actually that's a good sign because the music I like the best is stuff that takes time to grow on me at first.

You're right. It takes some time to process.
When you first listen to it, the thought that automatically comes to mind (mind anyway) is that it's an excellent product, but there's no all that much in the way of continuity. It's sort of like they took a whole lot of stuff and mixed them together (which, one gets the feeling, is what happened).

CD for $11.99. LP for $19.99.
One would assume similar figures in sterling.

Don't know about for you but here a lot of record companies are releasing vinyl presses as well as the CD's. Usually in somewhat more limited numbers but still, large enough quantities.

I have only seen LPs sold in the large record stores in Oxford Street, the ordinary shops in the High Street stock ony CDs

China's censors cool on Guns N' Roses democracy album
SHANGHAI (AFP) — China's Internet censors appeared to be trying to block fans Monday from accessing websites related to Guns N' Roses' first album in 17 years, which is provocatively titled "Chinese Democracy".

Plenty of heavy riffs and Axl's singing is still strong, thanks in part to the production...
Great hard rock and that's all that really matters...

I heard the CD, and I have to admit:
I was not very impressed.
It was in development for like 15 years, and it sounds like it. All of the songs sound like they could have been in the Top 40, in like 1993. It was ok, but I think I would rather listen to Use Your Illusion 1-20 before listening to that again.
To me, it was somewhat of a dissapointment. Axl is totally lost as to what music is today. Velvet Revolver to me is much more accurate as to what the "modern" GNFR should be sounding like.

I like "Better" and the title track, though not sure if I should buy the album and it's notreally Guns N' Roses since Axl is the only original member.

I was fearing the worse and was gladly surprised. It still sounds like G'n'R wich is in itself a miracle.
