Bon Scott and Brain Johnson were equally as truely awesome as each other. But I suppose Bon Scott was a true legend, if you had to pick one.

Going by voice, my favourite is other: Kelly Llorenna. She's not technically a lead singer, but she sang lead on a majority of popular hits by the group N-Trance. The way she hits those high notes is just fantastic :)

Dickinson is a great vocalist. Good range.
I love Mick Jagger as well, kinda gruff but an actual talented singer.
LEMMY RULES!! That guy has no actual singing talent, but he growls everything ;D
Hetfield is a better Vocalist than Guitarist, he has good range.

As vocalists, I picked Bruce, Dio, Bon, Dee and Layne. I would have also picked Robert Plant, Freddie Mercury and Rob Halford, but I could only pick five. :)
As frontmen, however, I would have picked Bruce, Diamond Dave, Freddie, Anthony Kiedis and Michael Hutchence. Not all necessarily great singers (although Bruce and Freddie obviously are/were), but EXCEPTIONAL front guys.
Also Big Unit: Is Hetfield that great a singer? I rate him hugely as a guitar player! He played ALL the guitar parts on the first four Metallica albums except the solos, and there's some incredible playing on those albums.

Jimmy Osmond of the Osmond Brothers.

Nothing wrong with his guitar playing.
I do think he has great vocal talents. Think of all the different styles incorporated in to the different albums, he's adapted to all of them.

Axl Rose. I can't believe that he wasn't on your list.

Layne Staley, though Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave) and Mike Patton (Faith No More, various other projects) are also excellent.

Oh cool. I just get annoyed when people say Hetfield's not a good guitarist because he doesn't play lead. Lead guitarists are everywhere, but really good rhythm guitarists are hard to find. :)
His "singing" on St Anger is woeful though.

St Anger is fairly woeful altogether. I like the aggresive nature of it, but.. James, you can sing, sing. Lars, you can play, play.
He's definatley a good guitarist. Not in Kirk's league mind but i happen to see Kirk as one of the best ever.

Out of the choices given here, I chose (in no particular order) Mick Jagger, Roger Daltrey, Robert Plant, and Bon Scott. However, I feel I must add Mark Lindsay of Paul Revere and the Raiders, who I feel is one of the most underrated and overerlooked frontmen of all time.

:) I regard Kirk Hammett as an over-rated hack, actually. But that's just me. He's a better lead guitarist than I am, but he doesn't really show much imagination. Dave Mustaine is better. Anyway, this thread is about singers, not guitar players.

I'm the opposite. I think Mustaine is just a big handed oaf, as you say, about singers.
Have you heard Dickinson on the new Dance of Death? Outstanding.
Marvelous range.

Robert Smith of The Cure (why was he not on your list?)
Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith of Tears For Fears
Sandra Cretu is not exactly the lead vocalist of Enigma, but I love her as the backing and (sometimes lead) vocalist of Enigma!(Enigma is her husband's side project, he also produces her solo work)

I forgot to mention Justin Hawkins(The Darkness)...he has some pretty awesome vocal stuff...that falsetto stuff on "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" is a great example!
