Subject: Slight Change in Food Pyramid
Written By: Kyle on 04/19/05 at 6:50 pm
There has been a slight change in the food pyramid. Now people are required to eat more grains, plants, and dairy products and less meat and sweets. In the old school one, dairy products are near the top of the guide with the sweets (which in my book, should be on the bottom. :D ;D). Also, people are recommended to drink more water than crunk juice, and say good-bye to some of these sugary sodas such as Mountain Dew, Sprite, whatever! Do you think they should keep the new one or go back to the old one?

Keep the new. More vegetarianism!

The new one is definitely healthier. I can't imagine why you would enter soda into the equation. They are
meant to be an occasional treat, not life sustaining nutrition. ???

Some doctor's have also said avoid cheese at all costs. So it depends on the diet the doctor gives you. They obviously don't want any sugars in your diet, other than what's in fruits. (They should be eaten sparingly, some doctor's say.) A diet loaded with grains and veggies are what a lot of them recommend, unless it's a low-carb or carb counting diet like mine.

Funny, I just read in the paper yesterday (Dr. Gott) about the "8 glasses of water a day" suggestion that's been around for years. Basically, he was saying (and I googled it and many other physicians agree) that in MOST people, that's not really necessary unless you're in a warmer climate or are physically exerting yourself (i.e. exercise, sports, etc). Also, unless you have an underlying medical problem, it's okay to just drink when you're thirsty. Although, I know many people who have lost weight by drinking more water daily....it makes you feel fuller and lessens the chance of overeating ;)
Well thank goodness for that ! Everytime I tried to be good and drink loads of water all it seemed to do was make me need to pee all the time ! ;D

I don't trust the food pyramids anymore. It varies from person to person, so I think you need to find what works for you specifically. I heard they're making a few kinds of the pyramid for different people and lifestyles, but they can't possibly cover everyone. It's up to you to find out what works and what doesn't.
