Subject: Comic book covers: Are these for real?!?
Written By: AL-B on 02/26/05 at 2:13 pm
I don't know how I stumbled across this website, but it's blowing my mind. The guy who runs this site swears these vintage Superman comics are real, and they do look authentic, but they're so completely bizarre and illogical that I don't know if they're going to make my brain blow a gasket or if I'm gonna die laughing. Weird, weird, weird!

Er, yeah, I think the "Jimmy Olsen" and "Lois Lane" spin offs were meant to be tongue in cheek parodies written for fun. Not meant to be taken entirely seriously.

Hey, I used to read Archie comics when I was a kid...
:-National Lampoon was funny in the '70s, though it was always misogynistic and gross, AND had that rightwing shill P.J. O'Rourke as one of its main editors and contributors. After about 1981, it was hopelessly lost and should have folded.
If you ever get the chance to read those vintage NatLamp issues, you'll come across parodies by John Hughes. If you're familiar with Hughes' '80s movies, you will recognize familiar plot lines and characters.
For instance, the inspirations for Vacation, Christmas Vacation, Long Duk Dong (Sixteen Candles, and "Hot Wet Wife" (European Vacation are all in the various Hughes stories.

I actually printed that one off and put on my bulletin board. The National Lampoon was funny in the '70s, though it was always misogynistic and gross, AND had that rightwing shill P.J. O'Rourke as one of its main editors and contributors. After about 1981, it was hopelessly lost and should have folded.
Around 1989-90, when I was in the Army, I started reading the 'Poon and thought it was funny as hell. I especially liked the "Evil Clown" comics. It did go completely downhill a few years after that. (I like a lot of misogynistic and gross humor--it's a key part of my schtick, and I also like a lot of P.J. O'Rourke's work.)

P.J. is very funny, it's his politics that make me wanna blow lunch. Same thing with Dennis Miller.
