Subject: How will you say the years after 2009?
Written By: bbigd04 on 02/16/05 at 11:07 am
I've been thinking about how most people will say the years after 2009. We all know now, most people say two thousand five or what ever year it is. But when it hits 2010, It seems like twenty-ten would be the easier and more logical way to say 2010. I see the twenty-ten pronounciatiaion being used on newscasts as well, so it seems that will probably be the way people will say it. Which way will you use though? I actually use twenty-o-five sometimes as well, because it sounds kinda cool.

Twenty ten seems most practical. Then twenty eleven, twenty twelve, and so on and so forth.
As for the name of the decade, two thousand tens seems most appropriate. And then once we get far enough away from the 20th century(perhaps the 2030s) we will drop the two thousands and just go to calling them the thirties, fourties etc.

Wow, RockandRollFan you really say twenty-o-five? I know not one person in real life who says it like that, everyone I know says two thousand five. Not saying its bad, just different.
And like Stuart on SNL used to say..
"And thats...okay" ;)

I say twenty-o-five sometimes, but I usually use two thousand five. People look at you a little funny when you say twenty-o-five.

I don't think the format "twenty-twenty" will come in to place really until the year 2020. Until then its two thousand and ten, two thousand and eleven etc

lol, it sounds more catchy if you say them backwards, like 1020, 1120, 1220 - can get a little confusing though, time, date, year = 12:20, 12/12, 1220 ???

I was just going to call it the teens... ten/eleven/twelve aren't generally considered teen years, but I don't see why not really.

teen basically is ten, comes from the same word. and lots of people(not saying most) consider age 12 a teen year oddly enough.

really 10-19= teens. Teen is how you say "tens" Why some people only consider 13-19 teen is because those numbers actually have teen in the word, but really they are wrong, teens are defined as the numbers 10-19.
