Subject: Snoop Dogg Charged with Rape

Rapper Snoop Dogg sued by woman who claims assault

By Steve Gorman

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - An Emmy-winning makeup artist has sued rapper Snoop Dogg, the ABC network and its "Jimmy Kimmel Live" show for $25 million, claiming she was drugged and raped backstage at the show by the hip-hop star and his associates.

The legal complaint came about two months after the rapper, born Calvin Broadus, brought his own preemptive suit claiming he was the victim of an extortion plot by the woman, Kylie Bell, and her lawyer, although Broadus did not then refer to her by name.

Bell's suit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court Friday and made public this week on http://www.thesmokinggun.com, said she was sexually assaulted on Jan. 31, 2003, in the rap star's dressing room after Broadus finished taping a segment of Kimmel's show as his guest co-host.

Kimmel was not named as a defendant in the suit. But his show was named, along with ABC, corporate parent the Walt Disney Co. , and an ABC investment subsidiary that according to the suit began paying Bell's expenses after she initially came forward with her complaint in May 2003.

Bell's suit said ABC, Disney and Kimmel's producers "knew that sexually oriented misconduct ... was reasonably foreseeable" given Broadus' background as host of "Girls Gone Wild: Doggy Style." That adult video sparked previous legal claims underage girls were induced by drugs to expose themselves on camera.

An ABC spokesman issued a statement on behalf of the network, Disney and the Kimmel show that said, "There is simply no merit to the charges against the company." The spokesman added Broadhus has not returned to the Kimmel show since serving as co-host during the show's first week.

According to the suit, Bell, who won an Emmy for work on the HBO drama "Six Feet Under," was sexually assaulted by Broadus, his security chief and three other men after she was offered champagne apparently spiked with some type of drug.

She says relatives initially dissuaded her from going to police because of Broadus' supposed street gang affiliations. Bell ultimately filed a police report and brought her complaint to the Kimmel show four months later, when she sought assistance from a women's crisis center.

The suit says an ABC executive immediately arranged to pay Bell's living expenses, with Broadus picking up those costs later when his lawyers opened negotiations with her lawyers.

The two sides agreed to a settlement in January, nearly a month after Broadhus filed his extortion claim, but the deal fell through when his insurance company refused to pay a portion of the sum promised by his legal team, according to the suit.

Ten days later, Bell filed her suit, claiming she suffered "serious emotional distress and anxiety" that resulted in ongoing psychiatric treatment. The suit seeks $5 million in compensatory damages plus $20 million in punitive damages.

I know!  Snoop is cool and is said to be nice.  He can't be a rapist!  If he is though I'll know how people who grew up in the 80s feel about Michael Jackson.

Although many rapists do seem to act nice until they're in a position to rape someone.  Kobe, that's you, you stupid dumba*s!

I think it's extortion and Snoop, Not Kylie, is the victim.  I won't be judgemental of the accuser though, that would be wrong.

I hope the charges are false, especially since I love Snoop!  :D  If they're true, that'll be awful  :(  Plus I won't be able to be a Snoop fan anymore.  :o

I think Snoop is innocent because he appeared on Chappelle's Show, whereas R. Kelly did not.  Snoop is a funny guy.  Rick James was a rapist, but he went on Chappelle way past those days.

I think somebody as funny as Snoop Dogg wouldn't be the type to rape a woman.

Yeah it's not so much him being talented as being good-natured.  I mean Kobe never seemed good-natured even before the rape case; he just seemed like an annoying goody two-shoes.  Snoop seems like he'd smoke weed, but not rape somebody. But like I said, I'm not mad at the victim. She may be telling the truth.
And then I'll lose all respect for Snoop.  >:(

I just find it odd that she filed her lawsuit after he had filed an extortion lawsuit against her. As it is said though, only time will tell who is being truthful. I will be quite disappointed if it turns out these claims against Snoop are true. I grew up listening to this guy and enjoying his rapping and acting.

Besides, even if he is innocent, people will still say he got away with it because he's famous, he's a rapper, blah blah blah. Typical BS. ::)

I don't hate the guy. It's that "defense" attorney that I have no tolerance for :P

I think Snoop is too much of a pimp to have to resort to rape, although I know that has nothing to do with how a rapist operates.  But I think a rapist has to be an evil human being, and I don't see anything evil about him.  Fo' Shizzel !

I agree, except I don't believe in "evil", being nonreligious.  I believe in "bad" and that people need to be punished for their wrongs (ESPECIALLY rapists and other felons), but I don't believe that bad people don't have the capacity to change. I guess I'm saying that called bad people "evil" implies that they are perfectly normal mentally (they're NOT!)  but are just straight-out jerks that should never be given a chance for forgiveness. Have they sold:
Their freedom? Yes.
Their likeablity? Yes.
But their due respect for being a sentient being? No.

That's part of my beef with the far Right (that they're so sadistic), but that can be saved for the politics board.

Most won't change, but they always can.

But that's way off topic.  Snoop would never rape, he's too good-natured.  I couldn't imagine him doing any felony unless it related to drugs (or drugizzles  ;D  )

My opinion on this is that Snoop could be guilty & trying to pre-empt any action against himself- if he felt extortion would be a likely outcome of that night's events, why did he not raise an issue at the time (it appears from the timescale indicated above that he made his complaint some 2 months after the 'incident', and the girl involved made her complaint some 2 months later than that)?

I realise the majority of the replies here are from Snoop fans, and as someone who's enjoyed his music in the past, hope this story isn't true. I'm afraid, though, that just because he's a nice, funny guy usually, it doesn't mean it's impossible he has done this. :-[

"You know you can't control these hoes." To quote the accused. Snoop is the man. I like his first album the best, though. He never recaptured that goodness.
