I was looking for a random name of a city for a project. I went to mapquest and looked at a bunch of different states. Those were some of the really strange ones I found.

I was doing a project the other day and I came across some strange names of towns.
Hell, Michigan
Poop Creek, Idaho
Pinhead Buttes, Oregon
Stupid, Oregon
Fudgearound, Tennessee
What's wrong with Hell, Michigan? Ain't that strange. There is a t-shirt there that says, "I been to Hell, Michigan and back." I thought it was pretty cool.

Its just not really a name you'd think someone would name a town. I mean who would want to be the mayor of Hell. Or if someone asks you where you go to school and you tell them Hell...well actually school can seem like Hell.

Wahoo, Nebraska
Wahoo is about 20 miles north of Lincoln. Sometimes when I drove through there and I'd see someone walking down the street, I'd roll down my window and yell out "WA-HOOOOOOOOO!!!" They hate it when you do that. :)

The head coach for U of Michigan hockey team is named Red. And that's what I call my nephew because of his bright red hair. He's actually a junior.

The big landfill off the coast of NYC is called Fresh Kills Landfill.
How about Bell Buckle, Tennessee?
And a few real last names I have run across:
Cobbledick
Shufflebottom
Fuket
And of course, if you go back to the 1800s in England there is someone in every parish who names their kid Mahalshalalhashbaz... ::)

Kill is Dutch for stream, or river. The Dutch settled NY first and there are many places with Kill in it. Last year
(or the year before) PETA tried to get the name Fishkill changed(for obvious PETA reasons). It didn't happen. ;)

OK, by the time I got to this thread most of the obvious funny place names I know had been mentioned but here are a few--
Massachusetts:
Belchertown
(used to be Cold Spring before it was renamed in honor of a certain Mr. Belcher)
Gay Head
(on Martha's Vineyard--In the '90s they changed the name to Aquinnah citing historical heritage reasons. Oh sure. Could it be one too many B & B guestbook entries of "D i c k Hertz from Gay Head"?)
Athol
(Nothing overtly humorous here, except that people insist on placing the accent on the second syllable. Makes me wanna say, "Thtop thaying it that way, you athol!")
Let's see--
There is a Bitch Mountain in Vermont
and
There is a Blue Job Mountain in New Hampshire
There is a Maidenhead in England
and
There is a Maiden Gully in Australia
Don't forget Diksheesh, India
or
Pis Pis River, China
I can't believe Newfoundlanders still call that town Dildo, but what can you expect from a province with a town called "Peckers Point."
If you are in Intercourse, PA, where do you want to go from there? Blue Ball or Yocumtown?
Heard of but unconfirmed:
Big Cockup and Little Cockup (England)
I always remembered the name Leighton Buzzard, UK, because that's where Kajagoogoo was from. Most apt.
Don't forget Mianus, Connecticut. Apparently, it is pronounced "my anus."

That's news to me. Never hear of it. I googled it and came up with nothing. Are you sure about that?
