Originally written and done by Badfinger and composers, the late Pete Ham and Tom Evans...They gave the song to  the also late Harry Nilsson who turned it into a classic. I think they all would be turning over in thier graves if they heard the banshee screams of Mariah destroying it. Just my opinion though! What's your's? :)

Harry Nilson was a singer - songwriter back in the late sixties and seventies with hits like "Everybody's Talkin'" and "Without You". He was more like "lite" (spelling intentional) rock. He hung out with John Lennon during his wild weekend phase.

Everybody's intitled to their own opnion. And that's why I like this 'board. Because of it's diverse range of memebers.

If this poll was on a Mariah 'board, her version would be highly ranked and some of her younger fans probably might  never heard the original version.

(BTW, I only like two of her songs)

No Problem...but a last word on this for the record....had you named Van Halen the winner I'd still be questioning how a tie was a win for them. Granted the last few years, she has this weird shreaking thing going, but her earlier stuff is very good. "Without You" is a great example of this. The best version is not by Carey, and also not by Nilsson (it's a better one than carey's though), THE BEST version is actually covered by Russell Hitchcock phenomenal voice, or in other words, AIR SUPPLY...

Nilsson. And woops, Mariah may not sound like a banshee. But she doesn't sound like an angel either. She practicallyruined "Without You" and "Genius of Love" by The Tom-Tom Club (when she sampled that in "Emotions" or Fantasy".)

I don't even know who Nilsson is but I'm picking him. I stiil can't get over MC's version on "Bringin' on the Heartache" :P

:o Thanks for reminding me!! :P BTW, the late Harry Nilsson covered the original written by Badfinger in 1970. They gave him permission and he recorded it in late 1971. You should definatly check it out ;)
