Subject: Is the Internet Getting Weak?
Written By: AngeFaitore on 12/08/04 at 2:19 pm
I dabble in the Sonic the Hedgehog fandom from time to time only to wonder, WHAT has HAPPENED to their PASSION?!?!
There's nothing interesting on those message boards anymore. Flamewars between the Sonic/Sally relationshippers and Sonic/Mina relationshippers won't be tolerated on some forums.
So WHAT has happened to the internet when in this day in age, you can't have a good conflictive flamewar within a fandom or even engage in activity that boarders the gray area?
The internet is still fun if you know where to go, but lately some places have grown lame.
I can understand someplace like this not having flamewars, it's a sedated place. It's a pleasant place to talk about nostalgia. It's cool, it's cool. I like sites and forums like this, but on places that cater to fandoms, I don't know where everything went wrong. There's no passion in fandoms anymore... except for possibly the Star Wars/Star Trek fandoms. I think it all happened when the new wave of teenagers took over the internet about two years ago...

i agree. on the warhammer 40k and dungeons and dragons forums all sorts of nasty flamewars would happen. some troll comes along and everyone would come down hard on that poster. there's been a general crackdown all over message forums when it comes to flamewars, must be a conspiracy..lol. these boards are quite friendly, even in the political thread where i know some posters would have gotten banned a long time ago.

I don't think it's done yet. We just haven't had the maximum download speed.

I think the internet has changed a whole lot when we first got our computer 6 years ago.Nowadays, everyone seems to be enjoying flamewars and trolls appear out of nowhere and like to start arguements. >:(

What kind of IDIOT could suggest there's no flame wars any more? Just because nobody gives a s*** about Sonic the F****** Hedgehog. There's still lots to get passionate about, such as WHETHER TO FLAME ON MESSAGEBOARDS
;)

Maybe I'm just going to the wrong places. I just don't see any of that anymore.
So... are you a Mario fan? :P

No, not a Mario fan - nor a Sonic one either (if I had to name a platform game, it'd be Frac for personal reasons.. but you'd be way too young to remember Frac, I'd wager)
I was kind of joking in that message - you know, pretend I'm flaming 'cause you were complaining there ain't enough flames around any more... but I guess I wasn't passionate enough, so hell... maybe you're right. Which reminds me, if you think that current flames are too lame, that it makes you want to start flaming lame flames.. you might enjoy this: A Lamer Shade of Flame (to 'A Whiter Shade of Pale' by Procol Harum)

Thanks.
I think I've got one started over on an EZBoard named Sonic & Knuckles MB. I found out earlier and I giggled and giggled at the computer when I got there. It's just me and one guy... being positively silly about Sonic Relationshippers.
Maybe you're right that some aspects of Sonic suck. I still like the games, but I think that SEGA are becoming slackass with their marketing. The Archie Comics series hasn't been good since 1997 and the newer fans are just odd.
BTW, I was born in 1985 (I wish I had been born in the late 1970s... Why wasn't I an 80s child!?!) and I'm an 80s fan who has done a bit of video game research...
So, was Frac for the C64, Atari, Coleco Vision, NES, TurboGraphix-16 (God... I'd love to find an ISO of Ys Books 1&2) or another system? Help me out here, I might be able to find a ROM for it.
I <3 ROMs. Sure, they’re illegal, but, oh well.

I wouldn't know - I've never actually played the game. Honest :)

Frac was a BBC Micro game originally, not so much the first computer game I played but the only one for a few years... which is why it stuck in the memory I guess. Plus I'm related to the author ;)
