Subject: How Bad and Good Are Today's Music Videos???
Written By: Alana on 10/28/04 at 6:51 pm
I would like to make a statement about what music videos are today!
I would like people to reply to this message about their opinions of how good and bad some music videos are for either young kids or anyone to be viewing all over national television's music stations and to list ones they think are GOOD and BAD.
My opinions.....
1. Should we let young kids see rap music videos where we see voluptuous young women about 19-25 years old shaking their asses on camera or letting a guy touch it while SHE shakes it?
2. Should we stilll ban violent music videos when we know young kids will pick it up from un-hidden sources like a book or TV?
3. Should we let kids learn things from obscene and sexually filmed music videos?
4. I am only 13 and I do not approve of alot of rap's music videos and I only like videos from 2 decades ago.
5. Most music videos carry subliminal messages about sex and violence

IMO, all of today's rap videos shouldn't be viewed by anybody under 17.
Not all videos are bad, mostly, "G", "PG" or "PG 13" rated, like from a few rock bands like The White Stripes, The Darkness, Jet, and Beastie Boys, though alaso a rap group, but still make fun videos like "Ch Check It Out".
Check out current videos directed by Michel Gondry & Spike Jonze who mostly use creativity than scantly clad dancers & expensive cars.

I think music videos aren't the same as they used to be.today's videos would need a rating like G,PG,R, or NC-17.explicit Rap videos need an R or NC-17 for language, sexual situations OR nudity. >:(

Im not one to care for censorship, but in this case i have to agree mostly.
It seems the artistic value of music videos have disappeared. Most videos on MTV/C4/VH1/Juice/Channel V etc do seem very much the same, with no real thought put into them. Its all sex, cars, money...
Of course there are the odd gems, mostly by lesser known bands. (I still have yet to see any modest mouse videos)

Most can be seen on "Subterranean" on MTV2 which showcase bands like Interpol, Modest Mouse, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Snow Patrol.

I think videos today need ratings.that way people would know what they're watching.

I think most hip-hop videos stopped being good around 1999. Now they're just tiresome.

A big majority of today's videos just stinks! Fair exceptions aside. And right for that reason I don't watch MTV anymore at all. It's all about sex, cars, money, dancing girls who don't look beautiful and truly exceptional really at all...etc. Artistical value in videos is totally underminded. I cry when I think of how good and inovative videos used to be 10, 15, 20 years ago. :\'(

Eighties Metal bands had them! They had the best looking girls in videos ever IMO. Just think of Van Halen and David Lee Roth, for example. The latter's "California Girls" (1985) is full of rather pretty girls in bikinis. ;)

I find most videos today are slick but seem to lack imagination. Yep! It's great having all that funny camera work but if it just consists of someone singing in a garish computer generated backdrop . . . Well, the whole video is wasted IMO.

I don't think there is anything wrong with having sexy women on videos. However, there is a difference between being cheeky and being racey. I do object to the showing of racey videos before a certain time though - we have to show responsibility to the young 'uns, heh?

It was a lesser known actress Tawny Kitaen. She was David Coverdale's wife at the time of "Is This Love?" (1987) and "Here I Go Again 87" (1987) singles/videos. She looked very pretty back then I must admit.

I like some of today's music videos. Two videos I like at the moment are Gwen Stefani's 'What You Waiting For?' and McFly's 'Room On The Third Floor.' Gwen's video is Alice In Wonderland-inspired while the McFly one shows the band as plastic models to be assembled.

Speaking of hairmetal, today's metal videos (nu metal, speed metal, & death metal) are far worse. :P
With the only exception of "Freak On A Leash" by Korn
Thankfully MTV2 is 75% Hip Hop, 2o% Top 40, & 5 % "MTV Headbangers Ball"... Though I also can't stand any of today's rap videos and only like a few of today's rock/pop videos.

Oh, almost forgot...
I'd watch any classic hairband/'80's metal video like "Here I Go Again" (Whitesnake), "Cherry Pie" (Warrant), "Home Sweet Home" (Motley Crue), "We're Not Gonna Take It" (Twisted Sister), "Rock Of Ages" (Def Leppard), etc. than any of today's rap or metal video. :P

Most Rap uh I mean Crap videos demean women while some metal kinda porno's women. Rap or is called hip hop? should be playe din mental institutes or in prison so no one would want to ever come back there again. Over all- Sexy videos are nice to look out but like so much of liberal media these days they go overboard with their mind rape b/s. Don't get me started....

I'm not a very big fan of music videos in general. I like having my own imagery of a song, and you should have your's too, instead of a musician telling you how you should see it. That's what their music is for =).
If that makes any sense.
