What scares you?

I'm terrified to use ESCALATORS,because I had an embarrassing incident on one,in an airport.

Performance reviews, never like 'em.   I'm completely fearful   :\'(

Heights and other stuff: choking  :\'(

Oh and Public Speaking  :P

The first four in order of worst to least, the fifth under "other stuff" is a nagging fear, hard to rank.

1. Failure
2. Snakes
3. Germs/Contamination
4. Confinement
5. What if this is as good as it gets?

"Failure" is a big one.  I've seen a lot of it in my family and had a lot of it to call my own, so it's tough to keep my confidence level up.
The bona-fide phobia I have is snakes, ophidiophobia, I'm terrified of them, even little harmless ones.  I'm not a fan of reptiles in general.  My friend has pet Iguanas.  Ick.  I won't go near 'em.  Anyway, as far as the reptiles of New England go, I don't bother them, they don't bother me.  It works out for all of us.  The problem with venemous snakes and crocadilians is a misunderstanding on an accidental encounter.  Fortunately, it is far too cold for alligators up this way, and the venemous snakes are too few in number to be of concern.

The other, "What if this is as good as it gets?" is a cousin to the fear of failure, but its own distinguishable fear.  I try to counter it by focusing Zen-like, and in-the-moment.  That works sometimes.

crime/safety(break-ins) followed by mice/rats.i was home during an attempted break-in when i was 14-not a good time.i have an alarm system installed in my house which i enjoy.as for the mouse/rat thing,the first time i really saw a mouse was a few years ago and i literally ran on the spot crying "eek".i'm a bit of a wimp  ;D

I picked "other things."

The only things that terrify me at this moment is something happening to my baby while I'm carrying him or when I go into labor.

Other being something happening to my daughter then heights and elevators.  They both go hand in hand, IMO.

This probably sounds really wierd, but last year I hit a deer, and smashed up my car really bad, and scared the holy crap out of me. We live in an area highly populated by deer. My daughter has hit 2, her friend just hit one last week and totalled her car. And they're back for the season and I'm constantly looking all around when I drive out in my area. They just come out of nowhere and it totally freaks me out!  :o

Yeah, I agree Cat & Max  I've been out there on route 8 in the snow and 10 degree temps and had car trouble.  (one of those little towns like Becket)  I can sympathize saw some other wild things out there but not a deer.... think they were foxes or something similar or scary.  Only hit a bird who flew into my windshield.

Oh, you know Route 8!  Most people would just take the Pike back from Great Barrington, but not me!  Oh no, I get bored, and I like to go tooling around on the back roads...even late at night in the dead of winter!  Ever taken Rte 143 from Peru to Williamsburg?  Nice ride, but it takes forever!

I've put failure (quite apt) but I am having a bit of a death complex as well. I lie in bed wondering what it would be like to get shot or stabbed and then get a panic attack.  :(

It's been so long, I know Williamsburg... but I almost forget where Peru is?  I used to take route 9 from Northhampton through Goshen/Cummington on the way to Pittsfield  but route 9 is a little more dense than 8.   It's pretty desolute in the dead of winter though, not a great place to break down.   yikes!

I fear that the social system will break down and there will not be any help for
my son when I am gone.  He will need help to remain independent and it just
may not be there if things keep going the way they are going.  bush was asked
by a gentleman what he would do for people who are disabled and needed care
to remain independent.  His answer was that they should look to the compassion
of their friends and neighbors.  That is not good enough. >:(

I have a ton of irrational fears, but the biggest one is dying. I think about my death everyt single night. How it's going to happen, when it's going to happen, what it's going to feel/be like, ect.

From the list I chose: failure, incurable diseases in me or a family member, and a fear that's close to the top of my list; RODENTS!

I stepped on a mouse once and I almost passed out. I can't look at rodents without getting goosebumps, but oddly enough, I can't look away either.

Davester...I know what it's like to be obese...it's no party. I am finally dealing with it after being in denial for years! But some folks who are skinny fear being fat and act on it-that's called ANOREXIA NERVOSA.

I love flying and airplanes....but sometimes I am uneasy in small cars....

A lot more comfortable than traveling long-distance in a car(with passengers asking 'are we there yet,are we there yet'ad nauseum..or riding a bus for hours looking at nothing other than semis,city after boring city,and those all-too-familiar 'rest stops' with their array of cheap fast food and chintzy souvenirs! BTW,flying out to Tulsa, Oklahoma on Monday......
