Subject: Kazaa Lite

Written By: Secret_Squirrell on 03/31/04 at 11:29 p.m.

Hey, has anyone been having any troubles with Kazaa Lite lately?  The reason I ask is that every single person that downloads off me for the past 3 days, the download has aborted at exactly 128 kb EVERY time!  ???

I haven't done any changes or additions to my computer in a couple of months. Uninstalling and cleaning out any trace of Kazaa in my registry, then reinstalling Kazaa Lite v2.4.3 (and even tried v2.4.4) keeps having the same problem.  I can download fine, however.  I even try logging into other out-of-country servers and still have the same problem.

I have a lot of hard to find 80's mp3's and I can't share any of it (and it must tick off the downloaders..  :()

Both Kazaa Lite & Kazaa ++ have seemed to perform less than in the past.
I've noticed that searches seem to take longer, and most of the bandwith speeds are not accurate anymore. Tired of wrong titles/filenames by users. Sometime it won't even connect.
I'm done with Kazaa..
Try Limewire, it seems to have MUCH (cable/DSL) faster downloads, and it will tell you before a download is complete if a file is corrupted or not. The files listed are what they say they are & you can also perform five different searches at once.
The only downside is that the music player that comes with it is shabby, and Limeshop (spyware).

Because that is how they find what you are sharing.  They start a download from you, then use an IP sniffer to see who you are and where you are connecting from.

That is why there have been lawsuits against ISPs like Earthlink and AOL, to find out exactly who is useing the connection (IP address) at the time.

There is no real worry about the cops looking to see who you are (unless you are trading child porn or something like that).  The worry is that the RIAA will find who you are and file a lawsuit against you.

Personally, I refuse to use any such service, and encourage people to not use them either.  Over the last several months, Kazaa and it's clones have become one of the largest originators of computer virus.  When I get a computer in my shopwith Kazaa, it is a 95% guarantee it has virus, even WITH Norton or McAffe running.

This happens because most virus disable Norton and other antivirus when they are activated.  And since there is often a 1-4 day lag between the release of a virus and the code to prevent infection, the hackers have at least that long to pass it out before they are "busted".  This is why it is often the "first release" point for new virus, even those that rely on e-mail to spread.  And because it is anonymous, it protects the hacker from being traced back through e-mails like the "love bug" author was.

At work, we call Kazaa and it's clones "Hacker Playgrounds".  Since they were all created by hackers that want to trade files for free, of course other hackers will take advantage of them to pass out their own "goodies".

I guess that's why you should always delete your songs the second after you've finished listening to em? Am I right? ???

Well...burn them onto a CD, share it with all your freinds...then delete them. :)

Anything to tick off the RIAA scumbags is OK by me. ;)

If you are using another bandwidth program at the same time can affect your uploading (like WinMX).

Restrict the people downloading off you to 1 or 2 at a time. Anymore and you are spreading your bandwidth pretty thinly.

Winmix's has worked for me, its getting slower though. My friend still uses kazaa lt. for downloading music and games, she's been complaining about speed and how people lie about file names, and how she keeps getting cut off.
Here's kind of an offtopic rave;
The music stores in the area where I live are OUTRAGEOUS! I have NEVER seen such terrible prices on CDs. Who wants to pay thrirty dollars for a CD you should get for 9? Nearly everyone in my neighborhood (except the really rich people) use kazaa of some form.

Is Kazaa good for a laptop or not?

I recommended Soulseek...www.slsknet.org

Soulseek has a whole lot more people sharing than WinMX, and I refuse to use Kazaa/Kazaa Lite anymore because a) viruses, and b) spyware (Kazaa, not Kazaa Lite).

You can use Kazaa on a laptop if it has a modem, Howard. A friend of mine has a laptop with cable and has no problems.

I will have to try some different file sharing programs.  I just recently tried eMesh and BearShare and they were so heavily infected with spyware as to be useless.  I spent a bit of time ferretting out the crap even after I uninstalled the programs.  >:(

I'm beginning to think that my ISP has put some kind of filter on Kazaa file sharing.  I can download, but no one can d/l off me as it stops at 128 bytes and shows an "Abort".  I've tried sending a page to the person but it always comes back as "no one there".  ???

Oh well, time to try something new.

It should all be included in the software.

Do what I used to do...be greedy...set it up so that you aren't sharing your files. :)  Yea its greedy, but at the same time, you aren't being checked out by the cops.

Howard, find and download Kazaa Lite v2.4.4 and install. It automatically forms a shared folder and configures it to be hidden from other users (which you can alter if you wish).  Then click on "Tools" in Kazaa and run the IP Blocker updater so you can block RIAA, Sony, etc.

And make sure you have an up to date antivirus program with updated definitions, and it would probably be a good idea to get a trojan scanner program as well like.  Looks like I had two trojans in my system which I had to snuff out.  >:(

I didn't think KazaaLite was still around.  I went to download it and all they had was WinMX & some others.  I use WinMX and haven't had any problems, except my firewall.  People have dl'd from me (not that I have much to offer) and I don't know of any problems there either.  Then again, I'm pretty new to this stuff so I might be having them and not knowing.

Oh, and Howard, you can use anything on a laptop as long as you have a modem.  If you are going to share, though, it needs to be connected at all times or you might just po someone if you disconnect in the middle of their download. ;)

The original Kazaa is still around at Download.com but it has lots of spyware and stuff. Make sure you have Adaware (free spyware shifter) from Lavasoft as well. Kazaa Lite is very difficult, if not impossible, to find. They removed it from their website and then changed it to a donation based thing for a short time to make it 'legal' - this makes no sense because, donations or no donations, you are still in theory theiving from the Industry anyway with the same consequences.

I think the main difference between Kazaa and Kazaa Lite is that you can hide your I.P address. There are pros and cons to this. It's difficult for the music industry to see what you have but people may not believe you are sharing any files and may cut you off.

Actually, it does no good against that at all.  Trust me.

What the investigatos do is start a download from you, then use a packet sniffer or IP tracer to see who the information is comming from.

Remember, this is P2P, once you start the transfer, Kazaa network becomes useless.  If you do not believe me, try this:  start a download, then disconnect from Kazaa (but keep the program open).  You will see that the information is still being transfered.

This is how they find out who is giving out the songs.  And this works the same on WinMX, or any other similar program.

"Remotely quede" means that your in line to download a file from the person you requested it from - and you could "remotely quede " for awhile. "More Sources" - I believe it means that some files aren't complete from one source and if you requested a certain file Kazaa maynot be able to locate the whole thing from one source but cannot find any other sources to complete it at that time.  Wow did I just say all that.

It'll get worse and worse since everyone is afraid to share their files.  P2P programs only work well when everyone shares, unfortunately.  I have given up on downloading for the moment.  I have turned to WinMX if I feel a need for a particular song.  The songs there are more likely to be the real thing and complete, until they get targeted.  Canada is lucky...it is legal there.

Has anyone ever tried to search for Kazaalite on Kazaa itself?  It is there.

O.K Howard. There are at least 2 types of CD you can transfer songs on to and they are CD-Rs (which you can only record onto once and that is it) and CD-RWs (which will allow you to copy more than once).

If you are using a CD-R you will want to make that copy your best one or else it could get expensive throwing those CDs away. However, CD-Rs play on Stereo Hi-fi's and Personal CD Players and CD-RWs do not (so make sure you buy the right ones).

CD-RWs major use are for storing data from your computer.

You have only wasted those CDs if they are CD-R and you are not satisfied with what you have put on them as you will only be able to record on them once.

The trouble with browsing for anything on Kazaa is it's too darn easy . . .  ::)  :)

CD-R's are only recordable ONCE. If you burn just one song  (or # of songs) and then finalize it, then you can't put anything else on that CD-R, ever. That's it.

EITHER, get all the songs you want together first and put them on the CD-R at the same recording session, then finalize it.

OR, you can burn however many songs at different times, BUT DON'T FINALIZE the session. You probalby won't be able to play it back on regular stereo w/o finalizing it, but you'll be able to go back and add more to the CD-R until you're done and THEN finalize it.
