Subject: Hockey fans-Todd"The Coward"Bertruzzi
I hope he gets banned from the NHL forever. He bulldogged Moore and now the guy may never play again >:(He couldnt be face to face he attacked him from behind.Along with banishment he should be forced to give up his salary to Moore(if he can never play again)WHAT WAS HE THINKING?I saw his "phony crocodile tears" at his press conference. ::)Hopefully this wont ban fighting from the NHL thats what separates it from all the other sports.Theres a difference between fighting and being malicious.

Personally, this is one big reason I do *NOT* watch the NHL.
I see fighting among professionals as childish and showing lack of respect. If I want to see a fight, I would watch boxing. If I wanted to see a fake fight, I would watch wrestling. If I want to watch hockey, I catch a college level or Olympic game.
In College or Olympics, you do not see behavior like that. Fighting there will get a player expelled from the game, and possibly the team as well. I would expect better behavior from professional sports players. Football, Basketball, and Baseball does not tolerate it, and neither should Hockey. After all, look at the number of career ending injuries that they have had over the years.
As Tim Dahlberg said this week, will it take a death to get the NHL to stop this behavior? And what are we telling out kids when we encourage such behavior?
I will not comment on how the NHL is largely a Canadian sport, while the NFL, MLB and NBA are largely American. :P
*just kidding*
Then again, look at how violent Rugby is... maybe the Canadians have more in common with Australians then they do us.
Peace :D

Moore will play again. Probably sooner than later. Yes he broke a couple of vertibrae, but Dante Cullpepper had the same injury and he was back in a month.

All sports have their moments. You can't honestly say that the NFL doesn't have it's goons. Bill Romanowski, Warren Sapp, Deacon Jones are jus a few that come to mind.
How about when guys like Roger Clemens or Pedro Martinez are throwing 90 mph baseballs at peoples heads?

I remember when the Philadelphia FLYERS were known for their brawling skills as well as winning back-to-back Stanley Cups in the 70's,but none of the "Broad Street Bullies",and I use that term affectionately, would commit the senseless act of brutality that THUG Bertruzzi did! >:(
Subject: Re: Hockey fans-Todd
I think Bertruzzi should ALSO undergo psychiatric evaluation....and if he's found to have a mental health problem.......COMMIT HIM to a FORENSIC HOSPITAL for the rest of his life!!!

Are you kidding me?! Bobby Clarke was probably the worst type of dirty player out there. And I say worst type because he was the player who would carve you up with his stick and than let someone else fight his battles for him.
In the 1972 summit series Bobby Clarke took out the soviets best player with a viscious slash to the ankle.
But back on topic. Yes the attack on Moore was horrible. But I don't think Todd Bertuzzi should be institutionalized or banned from the game for life for it.
The media is making it look like Todd bertuzzi is some kind of madman when that just isn't the case.
Let's not forget that just two weeks ago Mr. Moore nearly took off the head of Markus Naslund with his own dirty hit.
The only reason things like this are happening in hockey right now is because they introduced that stupid instigator rule. For years the players have been able to police themselves and there have never been any serious injuries because they knew that if they deliberatly took a run at another player they would have to pay for it on their next shift.

Agreed. In the rush to demonize Bertruzzi and beatify Moore, people forget that Moore, too, is a cheap-shot artist.
You ask me, he got what he eventually had coming to him. As my Mother would say: "You mess with the bull, and sooner or later you're gonna get the horns". Or, as my brother would say "Play with dogs long enoigh and don't be surprised if you wake up with fleas one day."
Subject: Re: Hockey fans-Todd"The Coward"Bertruzzi
I heard that the hit Moore made on Naslund was "clean". But "clean" in the NHL is probably most people's "dirty" and since I didn't see the hit that sparked all this I can't judge.

You can add Ray Nitzchkie (sp?), Jack Tatum, and Conrad Dobler to that list. If you've seen "The Longest Yard", you have an idea how Nitzchkie played for Green Bay in the 60s. As an Oakland Raider, Jack Tatum destroyed the career of receiver Daryl Stingley with his crippling hit. Then his book "They Call Me Assassin" was a best seller.
Offensive lineman Dobler was once called "The Dirtiest Player in the NFL, using techniques like tripping and hand grabbing during his stints with many teams, including the Saints, Bills and Cardinals.

Bertuzzi should pay the guy he hit(his medical bills.) The whole thing was wild and bizzare. You just don't go and jump on somebody blindsided like Bertuzzi did.

It was a legal check....it just happened to be against the leading scorer in the league at the time....I heard that is why the some of the Canucks took offense.

I would've liked to have seen him suspended through next season....but apparently there may not even BE one :(

And I would say to you and your mother, "Do not take the law into your own hands." and "Two wrongs don't make a right." I'm not saying Moore was a saint by all means. But Bertuzzi's attack was nothing short of vicious. No one deserves to be punished like that. This is not reflection on you, LyricBoy (or Resinchaser), but what's wrong is wrong.

I agree with you. Bertuzzi deserves a lenghty suspension. What he did was wrong and extremely dangerous.
But in my posts i'm not defending his actions as much as i'm defending the sport of hockey. I'm sick of hearing people who really don't know the game criticize it for the violence. Incidents like the Bertuzzi one are rare and are often handled appropriately by the league.
The game is really not as violent as the media might like some to believe.
If you want to see violent hockey come up to Quebec and i'll take you to a Quebec Semi-Pro match. Makes the NHL look like a ballet recital ;)

I gotta question for ya. Why would anyone go on tv to apologize to the individual you attacked?? He should apologize to the fans of the sport in public, then apologize in private to the victim. To me, cynical as I am, apologizing in public to the victim is meaningless and just trying to win unwarranted sympathy. I know if I was the victim, I would want to hear it in person, face to face. Not splashed across CBC Newsworld. >:(
Oh yeah, and keep the crying to a minimum. Be a man and hold it in. >:(

It was the most stupid thing I have ever seen in hockey. I never particularily like Bertuzzi. :(

Yes, but the difference is that the NHL seems to endorse these actions.
If Roger Clemens purposefully hits somebody with a ball, he will likely be suspended without pay, and benched for several games as a minimum. It is unusual to see such actions in any other professional sports, and they are quickly dealt with by the governing league.
And as I said, this is *NOT* the behavior in College or International hockey. If that action was done in the Olympics, the team would likely be disqualified. I do not see it as something I need to "understand". I see it as a pointless advertising gimick used by NHL to get fans. I personally am appaled, and have been for years. Just make the league follow the standards of Olympic play, and be done with the fights.
It reminds me of that old joke: I went to the fights last weekend, and a hockey match broke out.
