Subject: Disney up for grabs?

Have you all heard about this?

Comcast Cable (they suck) is wanting to buy Disney for $66,000,000,000 (yes thats 9 zeros  :o).  Reportedly Michael Eisner isn't interested, but we'll see.  Money talks.

The Disney Channel has been on the back burner ever since it was downgraded from a premium cable channel. But if Eisner thinks that selling it is a quick fix, then he has another thing coming. :-[

With the decline in the price of Comcast shares, the offer is now worth $51,000,000,000, which means the offer will have to be upped. Of course, this hostile takeover has done short term wonders for my Disney stock. It is up to $28.00 a share. The highest it has been in three years.

Disney Channel has already gone downhill since the late '90's. :P

I wonder how much worse The Disney Channel might get when it's bought?  :P  ::)

Thats true.  And to add insult to injury, Pixar Studios (Finding Nemo, Toy Story, etc) recently broke ties with Disney.

Sounds like to me, if Disney wants to get out of the gutter, they need to make some replacements...starting with Eisner.

Disney is so freakin' huge in itself, I don't see how a cable company can bring them in.  Good luck comcast. ;)

The biggest problem in the last 5 years has been Eisner.

He started out as a really great CEO.  He returned focus to a company that for so long drifted.  But he needs to step down now.

I look at the last few years, and I don't think they have had a really great movie since Mulan.  Lilo & Stitch was popular, but I would hardly place it against Mulan or Lion King in quality.

THen look at some of these other wonderful movies, like "Treasure Planet".  What kind of an idiot move was that?  California Adventure was a good idea for Disneyland, but come on!  Place it in the old parking lot, and charge more for it?  Not to mention that to move the parking lot, they bought out a HUGE number of "budget motels", which allowed familied to be able to AFFORD to take their kids there.  Since that move, the average room rate outside the "Magic Kingdom" has risen from $35 to $95 a night.

And then there is their sports teams.  Spend tons of money remodeling Angel stadium, then place the team for sale.  And before that, get an NHL expansion team, and name it after a kids movie they themselved produced.  Bonehead moves.

Then there is Pixar.  They had the worlds best CGI company in their pocket, and they let them get away.  Wanna bet how long it will be until Dreamworks or Fox picks them up?  All they did is feed their own competition.  I am drooling to see what Dreamworks can do with Pixar.

TO sum it up, Eisner needs to go I think.  He did a wonderful job rebuilding the company, but his time is past.  Roy's public statements are well deserved, and should be listened to.  When the last family member of Walt says "He needs to go", he should be listened to.  As for the takover, I hope it does not happen.  That would be the final straw of what was once a wonderful company.
