The person I most admire was a guy who used to work for me, named Rudy. An everyday hero.
Rudy was a high-school dropout, but he worked for me as an engineer in a big industrial plant. Man that guy was tough. When he had an idea how to save money for the company or how to make a better product, he NEVER GAVE UP.
When he worked for me, I had 6 people in their 20's and Rudy, in his 60's, working for me. I always told him and the 20-somethings that Rudy was the "youngest person working for me", because his MIND was young and he never gave up if he knew he was right.
Rudy was also a WW2 veteran, and had been injured in hand-to-hand combat fighting japanese forces in the Pacific theatre. Many years later, in 1988, he had to go to the hospital to have some work done on his old war injuries. He made me swear to NOT tell the Japanese guys at work why he was in the hospital, because he did not want to "offend" them. Somehow they found out anyway and they sent him a big bouquet of flowers, which he accepted graciously and in the spirit of comraderie.
A few years later Rudy had heart problems and was in the hospital, very sick. He called me on the phone and said "Hey LyricBoy, I am getting bored in here. Could you bring my computer from work so that I can get going on that new production idea I have?". This was pure Rudy. Sick as a dog but still trying to figure out a better way.
So for me... the person I most admire... is Rudy, an "unsung hero".

I would have been honored to meet and learn from Rudy, LyricBoy. He sounds like a true comrade and friend.

That's beautiful, man.

Don't know if this counts because she is no longer alive, but I would say my late paternal grandmother. She was quite a woman who didn't seem to follow the crowd. She wasn't the best housekeeper and was a horrible cook because she would use ingredients that were several years past the expiration date! :P
But she was like a lady of grace for me who loved adventure, even when she reached her 70s and seemed to be a really happy person. She also had a wonderful heart and loved her family and friends. I wish I had known her longer, but cancer took her life when she was 73 so I only knew her the first 12 years of my life. I still wish she was around. :( Anyway, I really want to become like her.
