Subject: American Idol Tryouts
Its the best part of the season with all those people who think they can sing LOL!How about the lady who cleared out the bar....Scat Girl......Scooter Girl
Subject: Re: American Idol Tryouts
yeah i saw AI for the first time yesterday it was pretty funny... scooter girl is interesting and the fact that she made it might make the show after the tryouts worth tuning into once in awhile... some other interesting tryouts in my opinion were the girl from bulgaria who sang bass and the 2 people from the military - the guy who rapped in what i think was korean and the girl who got the lowest military honors possible in everything (i kinda wished she couldve made it it would've made the show a lot more interesting and i didnt think she was a bad singer
Subject: Re: American Idol Tryouts
I really liked the guy that did a Dean Martin impression. He had a great voice. Also, the guy that sang "Unchained Melody" was good. Although, he could never compare to the way that Clay sang it. ;D
Subject: Re: American Idol Tryouts
Randy almost didn't let Scooter Girl in because he thought it was "Too Broadway" for AI. Simon and Paula had to convince him, then he said, half-kiddingly, "They've lost it." The best of the worst was the nerdy guy who thought he was 'the next Clay', but his singing proved otherwise.
Subject: Re: American Idol Tryouts
:( I missed it yesterday. I did hear on the radio morning talk show some of Simon's remarks and this guy trying to sing, "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me". Well at least I didn't miss out on it completely and I hear that tonight and tomorrow night there will be more auditions. Unfortunately, I'll be out tonight, but I really hope that somebody will tape it for me. I have to see at least some of the auditions, that's the best part of the show!

Highlights (or lowlights) from Day 2:
Some heifer of a girl who attempted "Flashdance, What A Feeling", then stormed out after the judges canned her. She kept repeating that they made "The biggest mistake of their lives." After hearing her warbling, you'll probably disagree.
Some girl named Tiffany who squeaked out some song.
A guy named Andrew that slept through "Sweet Home Alabama" after declaring himself "the top tiered singer'. More than likely, he'll jump off the top tier of the building. >:(
Subject: Re: American Idol Tryouts
he also threw in "Proud Mary" during SHA
Subject: Re: American Idol Tryouts
It's slowly becoming less funny and more and more sad.
Subject: Re: American Idol Tryouts
I agree somewhat. Even Paula is getting sick of it already (Literally, as tomorrow's Houston episode will tell.) Randy and Simon still get a big laugh out of it.

The girl who did "Flash Dance" proudly wore that outfit with the legwarmers from the movie because she lost 80 pounds. Sorry girl, but you still have a long way to go (80 pounds was obviously not enough).
Then there was that Lynard Skynard guy at the end. I thought it was quite rude of Simon to say, "Why are you here?! You're wasting your time and my time," yet at the same time I was amused because I can't believe he thought he could sing and be the next American Idol!! I wouldn't even consider that singing! What a way to ruin a classic song.
Subject: Re: American Idol Tryouts
Some definite low points from tonight's Houston tryouts (There weren't very many high points):
The first victim, er, contestant wasn't even too thrilled being at auditions, so the judges all said no before he could sing.
The tall, black dude who sang "God Bless America" like a Broadway tune, then shouted obscenities after his failed audition.
Paula and Simon didn't like the female blonde singer Randy liked, so Paula and Randy got into a spat and both she and Simon walked out. The next day Paula got the flu and didn't judge the last day.
And the coup de grace, the (mercifully) final Houston contestant splashed Simon with his water after his critique by the two male judges.
That's all until next week. :-X

What gets me is this -
Don't many these people have family and friends who listen to them objectively and tell them the truth about their lack of singing ability? They can't all be tone def, biased or in denial, can they? Geez, you'd think that after watching brutal auditions in previous seasons the participants would have a clue. :P

I have to agree with you. C'mon people, some of these people CAN'T SING! There are a few who can (who should have made it, IMO) but a large majority of those who throw fits are horrible! I was shocked at the girl last night in Houston who sang 3 seconds and they told her to stop and told her yes. Granted, she was one of the better ones, but I think at that point, they were just happy to hear a few notes out of someone's mouth that didn't make their ears bleed. ;D
Subject: Re: American Idol Tryouts
I think some of the contestants are actors they just plant to make the show seem more interesting. The way that "Flashdance lady" carried on on was such an act.I guess that will be another reality show "American Actor" ::)
Subject: Re: American Idol Tryouts
The Flashdance girl was in fact an intern from a morning radio show in Tampa, and was planted there by the show. She wasn't serious.

They should let anyone auditioning for A.I. to have their singing voice processed thru one of those electronic "Waring Blenders".

Has anybody been watching it this week? Boy what a riot! Yesterday it took place in Los Angles/San Francisco and tonight it was Hawaii (beautiful scenery!)
At the end of tonight's show, they showed some memorable moments, which were good, but I was disappointed that the guy who sang Queen's "We Will Rock You" was not shown. He was one of my favorites. They didn't show much of him---just having him croak, "You've got blood on your face. A big disgrace," along with him in a sneak preview commercial of him sing, "We will rock you." He kind of sounded like Beavis to me. It was unusual because his voice was croaky, raspy, and robotic. They did show the "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" boy from last night, which was funny because he sounded a little bit like Steve Urkel.
Subject: Re: American Idol Tryouts
True, those people on AI suck but you gotta give it up to them for having the nerve to go out there. Personally I can sing but I don't think I could ever have the nerve to go on a show like that.
I'd never forgive myself for becoming a pop star anyway
Subject: Re: American Idol Tryouts
Me personally - I cant sing ! And for that reason alone I would never rock up to an audition.
I just dont understand 90% of these contestants. They seriously appear to be of the belief that they can sing - even arguing with the judges when they are told quite frankly that they have no talent whatsoever.
I watch it for the entertainment value - not really to spot the next new talent. If idiots want to embarrass themselves in front of a viewing audience this big - then thats my entertainment !
We are a couple of weeks behind you guys. We have just had the Houston auditions this week.
It may interest you to know how "scripted" the judges comments are. After Australian Idol last year we had a show that basically showed the "nasty" judge in each country saying identical put down sentences. All a wee bit too scripted for my liking !! Tho I have to say - your judges argue with each other a lot more than ours do.
And I cant say I noticed security guards in any of the aussie auditions - whereas during the Houston auditions I noticed Simon screaming for security quite a few times to remove someone.
I admit these shows can help to get someone spotted among the millions - but yeah I agree with comments above - I have a lot more respect for the bands and singers who have worked their way up from the bottom and played all the pubs etc before being able to get signed. They didnt just win a TV popularity contest to get a whopping big contract.
Subject: Re: American Idol Tryouts
My favorite "bad audition" was the engineering student who did the song-and-dance "She Bangs".
The singing was terrible, and so was the dancing, but underneath all of that he really was giving it his all. After all 3 judges told him he sucked, he said "You know, I've never had any professional singing or dancing classes".
Though the performance sucked, somehow I gotta give the guy some credit for a nice effort and attitude! :D
----------------
Part 2: The Guy Who Sang Thru His Nose
Randy and Paula actually approved someone who was singing with some sort of nasal tone. Said that "in the next round you gotta stop that nasal thing".
WHAT A CROCK. If you are singing like Foghorn Leghorn, you should not get thru. Simon was right. Letting this person thru was like telling a one-legged man that he'd be great in a 100-yard dash if he had another leg. :-/
Subject: Re: American Idol Tryouts
First time AI watcher last night! It was interesting, that goof that sang she bangs was horrible, Paula Abdul also is a bit lame, some of the contestants need Jenny Craig, otherwise, Icould get hooked on AI. I remember seeing Randy and Clay, I thought they were wicked great singers, but no one came close to them last night, imo.

This was exactly the way I felt on watching this, Kenny. We get the Americal Idol stuff on one of the cable channels we subscribe to here in the UK.
It just became obvious that they're going to a city where 10,000 people show up for tryouts, then a group of judges (NOT Simon, Paula and Randy) pre-select a few hundred and pass them through to the televised audition. Hence they are DELIBERATELY passing through some hopeless, deluded cases for ritual humiliation, purely in order to give the viewers a good laugh at their expense. I guess I always knew this, it just became much more obvious on this series.
This just makes it seem more sad and cruel and less funny.
Subject: Re: American Idol Tryouts
If I was the one guy in San Fran (I think) that had the awesome voice, but answered the question about what he would do with the money by saying he would give most to charity has a legitimate reason to be pissed. Last night, Randy said "Definitely" to one girl, and you could tell he was just doing it because she was hot. Just like the one girl, he and Simon stopped after a couple of seconds and said "You're in". ::)
I'll agree with you, Lyric Boy, the guy who sang "She Bangs" was giving it his all. I thought he did better than most of them, though. He had the tempo right, and did hit some of the notes. I hope he's a good engineering student, though. :P
Subject: Re: American Idol Tryouts
Reckon anyone who wants to audition can do so. Maybe the she bangs guy really thought in his mind he was good. He was up there on his own accord, he stunk, and the judges called it like they saw it. He and most of the others were funny, so if they want to play, they got to pay.

That guy got dumped because his answer was BS. Before the question, as I recall, he said that he wanted to win Idol so that he could help the poor, etc...
But when asked what he would do with the money, he gave some BS answer that he would give 10% to charity, then some unintelligible discussion as to what he would do with the rest.
Besides, his voice stunk anyway. I would have passed the "She Bangs" guy before this one. At least the "She Bangs" guy was real even if he couldn't sing if his life depended on it :P.

Hey, you never know, maybe he would have given some to charity. Heck, he'd have to in order to offset the taxes Uncle Sam's gonna take. All I'm saying is that he was better than some of the people who were let through mostly on their looks/personality.
Subject: Re: American Idol Tryouts
How 'bout this: Not only was he blatantly phony, he was too lame for words. He could have gotten cut here, or he could have gotten cut in Hollywood, where all the other not-quite-good-enoughs that got through on their looks will get cut.

Some nice, energetic Hawaiian girl was actually able to sing alright and Simon actually liked her, yet Paula and Randy didn't let her through.
Yet, Paula and Randy let others who couldn't sing half as good go on to "Hollywood".
I didn't get that.
Maybe they thought Simon liked her appearance and wasn't being objective?
Maybe they just wanted to bruise his ego?
Too bad the girl got punished for it. I thought she was better than many.
Subject: Re: American Idol Tryouts
I liked the "She Bangs" guy as well. He was very entertaining, even if not a good singer. :) He deserves "kudos" for his great attitude.

I have seen some of the footage of the contestants and most of them can't sing a lick. Where do they get these people? The best singer they have don't even have a record deal and thats that Tymara Gray girl a couple years ago. I don't understand she was the best singer they ever had on that show and no record deal? You have to be kidding me. At least Simon just tells everybody what he thinks even if they are bad. It might be insulting but he's being honest. If I can't sing I can't sing.
As far as going after Simon and throwing stuff at him you are embarassing yourself on National TV.

I'm glad Scooter Girl is gone! She got on my nerves so bad. I am glad that the football player and the crooner made it on. Even though I love the crooner, I don't think he'll make it much further. :'(

I'm actually glad that Scooter girl is gone. She was too much.
Also was really happy to see that Alan go too. Although he was very nice to look at, but he came across as a jerk and a mannequin.
Who I'm rooting for now:
Amy Adams (the girl with the pink hair---she seems really nice
Lisa (the red-haired girl who "could lose a few pounds"---give her a break Simon!)
that red-headed 16-year-old boy (don't know if he's the crooner. I find him cute and sincere even though he's 12 years younger than me!)
that Hawaiian boy who had to sing first. Like his attitude.

How ironic you said that, Kenny. Scooter Girl's departure meant that Paula's favorite crooner, the guy that serenaded her in the first audtions (Earl or Michael, I think, was his name) was gone too, because they were in the same room. I guess Simon killed (at least) two birds with one room. :-X
