Subject: MTV2 Bites!
Written By: woops on 01/07/04 at 11:22 p.m.
My cable system recently got "MTV2" last month and it was AWFUL!!! I did some research and found out that they played a variety of videos (from the '80's & '90's) during it's first 6 years. Now it's mostly today's hip hop, pop punk, and numetal.
And during it's specials ("Credible One Hit Wonders", "22 Greatest Albums", etc.), they mostly showcase music that dates back to theearly '90's. As if the '80's never existed.
(Only 4 albums from the '80's were mentioned on their "22 Greatest Albums" list which was about the greatest from the past 22 years.)
The only videos from the '80's are shown are from hip hop, R&B, and some, or a few, rock acts. What ever hppened to variety!?! Though "Old School Hip Hop" is the only show I watch. And sometimes 'greatest hits', depending on the artist.
Unfortunately, my local system doesn't have VH1 Classic.
Fortunately, I collect music video compilation DVDs/tapes as an alternative. :)
Sorry if I sound angry, but MTV2 is just as bad as today's MTV. And drastically changed in 6 years. I remember watching the MTV2 "samples" on MTV during the late '90's, when the network started. (I think it was called "M2")

I don't watch it anymore I used to a little. Muh Music used to be good and then they started to play what MTV played all the time. Today's music is not digestable at all. Its all coorperate driven: we will play the same stuff over even its bad music just to sell records. The average music consumer is getting a very raw deal. Until record companies sart getting like they were in the 80's and into the mid 90's I don't see music on an upswing. The stuff that comes out now in 3 years it will sound old(90% of it anyway.) Its sad how did music even get like this? I just can't believe how bad the quality of music has gotten over the past 5 years.

MTV2 is no where near MTV is bad quality...MTV takes the cake in the bad genre. I would rather watch MTV2 than Fuse/much Music any day....they play a decent variety, and alot of more alternative music......in fact, it could be said that I like MTV2...(and I hate hip hop pop punk and numetal....of which I dont think they play THAT often).....
