Subject: Meat Loaf in hospital
...and I was supposed to be going to see him at Wembley Arena this evening :-(
Ah, well - get well soon.

Get Well Soon, Mr. Loaf !
Subject: Re: Meat Loaf in hospital
I'm hoping for the best Meat Loaf!

It is a good thing that Mr. and Mrs. Loaf did not name their children "Pimento" or "Turkey". Heh heh... ;D ;D ;D
Subject: Re: Meat Loaf in hospital
Hope Loaf gets well, but it was still a surprising subject choice of words!

I had to be the only fool who clicked on this topic thinking it was about the quality of food in hospitals ::)
Anyway, I hope Meat Loaf gets well soon!

I saw Meat Loaf in concert about 10 years ago or so. He put on a totally awesome show. I read about him clapsing on stage. I hope he gets better. FYI: His real name is Micheal O'Day. I can't remember how he got the name Meat Loaf but it was fairly early in life.

Actually Cat, his birthname is Marvin Lee Aday. He was here in Australia recently for a series of shows and played at the final of the football. He looked and sounded awful. I'm not surprised this has happened, but it's such a shame.

What was wrong with him?

Yeah, I realized my mistake O'day-Aday. I just remember that his name at birth was Marvin but he was called Micheal or Mike before his Meat Loaf name came about. (I saw an interview with him a long time ago.)

OH NO :( Does anyone have any links to articles about this ? I have tickets to see him in March so I sure hope he is back to healthy by then.
I do understand why he wants to give up touring - it takes its toll on his lungs and heart. He has suffered chronic asthma since he was a kid and was told in the mid 90's it would kill him - hence the big weight loss. My friend was his back stage nurse during his Aussie tours in the 80's and she put tanks of ventolin behind speakers and the drums etc all over the stage so in between songs he could lean over and take a big suck of it. She was horrified at how bad his asthma was and being a nurse she thought she had seen all the worst cases.
Get well soon Meat. I soooo dont wanna miss out on seeing you in March.
Ohh who was asking about the origin of the nickname ? Cat ? He was known as Marvin till highschool when - on a dare - he allowed a vehicle to run over his head and someone quipped "You must have meat loaf for brains to do that" and it stuck for life. On his website tho it does say his wife and family members still call him Marve or Marvin.

There's a little bit here
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/3279985.stm
It doesn't sound too serious at the moment.

I don't think it is too serious at the moment: he just tried to do a gig too soon after a nasty viral infection - he puts so much into each show, he does need to be fighting fit before he starts. I saw him about ten years ago, too, and it was one of the best shows I've been to.
Subject: Re: Meat Loaf in hospital
Thanks for the link Karen. I was very glad to read it was just a virus - nothing life threatening.
Philbo was your concert cancelled completely - or postponed to another date ? I hope you still get to see him again. The "ten years ago concert" was the last one of his I went to as well and it was awesome and I got to meet him during the soundcheck and he was so nice.

Didn't he do, "Let Me Sleep On It", a duet with ?????????
That is such a great song.
Was "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad" his first hit?
