Subject: male contraceptive

Written By: karen (Guest) on 10/07/03 at 07:43 a.m.

There was an article on the news last night about a new injection for men which makes them temporarily infertile.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/3167090.stm

It is hoped to develop this into a male version of The Pill

I wondered how many men would consider using it and ladies, would you trust a man who said he was on The Pill?

Personally I think in a long term relationship this would be an acceptable solution.  However in slightly more casual relationships I would be very wary about someone who said that he was on The Pill.

I'll be straight with you, will never use it.

Biologically it is one heck of alot harder to design a male contraceptive than a female one.

That said, this looks like a decent idea... as part of an overall contraceptive program.

I make sure to use AT LEAST 3 forms of BC, because any one form is just not reliable enuf.

So... by itself, alone... I would not trust a male pill.

As far as casual relationships go, it doesn't matter whether or not I would trust a man who said he was on the pill, my biggest concern would not be getting pregnant, but would be sexually transmitted diseases, which no birth control pill or injection protects against.

I can't see my other going for an injection.  A pill he could take every day, maybe he would do that (he's better at remembering things like that than I am).  I see that this new thing is an implant and periodic injections, and I know my other would never allow an implant (just like I would never have gotten a NoraPlant) in his body.

I dunno... anything that messes with the "family jewelz" is enough to deter me.  That goes for marijuana too.

Anyone remember the female condom?

I remember seeing the news with that on and my girlfriend smiled menacingly.

I'm not sure I want to deal with that until it is official that there are no long term side-affects. I don't want to find that after six years of using it, my testicles would start to inflate and blow up.  :-X

I agree - I'm not sure I'd trust myself to remember, either: do you think they could come up with a morning after pill for blokes, too?

No - men are supposed to put the pill in their shoe.  It makes them limp. :o
