Subject: Identity Theft Can be Hazerdous

A little research before can solve problems later... ;)

Man steals ID of sex offender

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

CLINTON, Conn. -- A good rule of thumb for an identity thief is not to steal the name of someone whose reputation is worse than yours, such as a sex offender.

Police said James Perry stole the name and identity of a neighbor who turned out to be a convicted sex offender.

Perry stole the identity of Robert Kowalski in order to obtain a drivers license, police said. Perry was living in Florida at the time and Kowalski was his neighbor.

Perry had four drunken driving arrests which he believed would make it difficult to get a license legally in Connecticut, police said.

Perry moved to Connecticut about a year ago and things went well until Perry was arrested for disorderly conduct.

A routine computer check found that "Kowalski" was a convicted sex offender in Michigan and not registered as required with the state of Connecticut.

Every bit of identification in his possession labeled the suspect as "Kowalski," but man himself was adamant that he was not a convicted sex offender, police said.

Finally, a check of his fingerprints revealed "Kowalski" to be James Perry.

Perry was released from Superior Court in Middletown Thursday on a promise to appear for his next court date Oct. 10 on charges of criminal impersonation, with charges of identity theft and forgery.

Okay...note to self:  make sure the person whose identity you choose to steal is not a sex offender...Making sure they're not a serial killer could also be a good idea...

Hahaha.. that's hilarious.  :D  Kind of reminds me of something similar that happened to a friend of a guy I used to work with about 13 years ago.  He was fined for not having a bus pass on a transit train and never paid it ($75).  Every year the city goes around with a few thousand warrants and arrests the people who haven't paid the fine.  Well, they came to his house and he denied it was him and gave a name he randomly picked.  The police ran it and discovered that the name he used was wanted by the USA military for some serious offences.  They placed him into custody, the whole time he was freaking out that he lied and that it really was himself.  They didn't buy it and after an overnight stay he was bused to the US border at Montana where US Military Police collected him and took him to a nearby base.  There they confirmed it wasn't him after all and kicked him out.  No jacket, no nothing, in the middle of nowhere.

He made it to a Greyhound bus station and crossed back into Canada.  Cost him a lot of time and money & his roommates reported him missing during his absence.  He went down to the cop-shop to have the report cancelled and was arrested again for the original failure to pay the fine!  :)  He called a buddy to bail him out an hour or so later.

I guess he should have paid the $1.50 for the bus fare in the first place.  :P
