Oh man. I can't believe this. I grew up with John Ritter and his Jack Tripper character on Three's Company.
Only in his 50s? He was waaay too young to suddenly pass away. I don't think he wasn't even 55 yet.

He would've been 55 next week...what a sad time.. :'(

I couldn't believe it either. It brings back shocking memories of Redd Foxx's death during the filming of his series "The Royal Family". He wasn't very old at all. He is definitely a big loss. :'(

:'( :'(Shocking, almost like the death of Sergei grinkov. He will be missed.I wonder if Jack Tripper knows this yet? :(

I liked John Ritter. He seemed an easy going bloke.
Now I know why Jack Tripper on the boards, calls himself Jack Tripper. I've never seen Three's Company:)

I remember went Sergei Grinkov died. Almost of the same thing. He was only 28, and his wife and partner, Katya Gordeeva, was so distraught she didn't want doctors to perform an autopsy.
I'm pretty sure Jack Tripper has heard about it and is mourning as we speak. :(

You should try and find some episodes, the show is an iconic part of Americana and so is John Ritter and the character of Jack Tripper. Three's Company was a sitcom from the late 70's and early 80's. I think it ran from like 1977 to 1983 or '84 on ABC. It's always been in reruns in the United States, and currently it's airing on Nick at Nite. It was about 3 roommates living together in an apartment in California, but the big hook was that it was a man living with two women. The show never had any bad language, nudity, or outright sex, but at the time in late 1970's America, the concept of the series was a bit risque and obscene for some on the far religious right wing like Jerry Falwell, etc. Now today even the religious right would see Three's Company as nothing but innocent family fun. John Ritter played Jack Tripper, who had to pretend like he was a homosexual so that the landlords of the apartment (Mr. Roeper, and then later Mr. Furley) would let him live with two girls. Jack would frequently try and jokingly bed both Chrissy and Janet (and later Cindy and Terri), but the characters always had a platonic relationship and there was nothing going on. Jack's best friend Larry lived above the roomies and together they would all get into wacky adventures. The first landlord that lived below them Mr. Roper, and then the second Mr. Furley would often be involved in many storylines as well. I believe the series was originally based off a British sitcom with a similar concept.
Although it was a lighthearted sitcom that was family oriented, every episode was LOADED with subtle sexual inneundo type jokes. It's amazing how much adult humour and gay jokes there were in this show. Not meanspirited gay jokes that were making fun of gays or anything, but rather poking fun of the situation that Jack was in because he had to pretend like he was a homosexual to the crusty old Mr. Roeper or hyperventilating Mr. Furley.
This was the kind of show you watch when you're a kid, then years later when you're older you watch it again and get all the adult sex jokes that went right over your head.

Sounds like a fun show, Jason. I reckon the British sitcom you are referring to was 'Cuckoo's nest' which featured Richard O' Sullivan. It was about one man living with two women.

Robin's Nest, actually. The bloke was named... Robin! :)

My Dad told me about John Ritters passing last night and I didn't believe him until I saw it for myself on CNN. He was just becoming something big again with a successful comedy. It is just so sad. He will be greatly missed.

I always wondered why Jack could never have an intimate moment with a girl. There was always some distraction.

Not the least Roper or Furley barging in, thinking Jack was still gay.
