Subject: Ow my teeth!

Written By: Bobby on 09/08/03 at 10:31 a.m.

Hiya all.

I've just come back from the dentist. I've had all four of my wisdom teeth out and my face feels like a hot air balloon.

I was very brave, according to my dentist, because I only had a local anaethetic.

Just thought I'd share my experiences.  :)

:o :o :oI've had that done, but I had general because I wasn't sure what I'd do if I felt it too much(there's supposed to be slight pressure)
Right now I have like the third spider bite in about a month--they're so gross-looking.They get better after about a week, but in the meantime you have to put up with a lot of pain, pressure and pus around the bite, until(thank God!)it opens and all the stuff comes out, greatly relieving the pressure.I'm trying to remember if my mouth felt that bad after getting my wisdom teeth out.Cheers! :o

Well, just now I ate a Star Crunch that I put in the freezer last night.  But I'm sure my teeth don't hurt as much as yours!  Sorry to hear about that! :-/  Get better! :)

I just had three wisdom teeth put in...! (Think about it!)

Do they do that at dentists now? Pull wisdom teeth out? I always thought that was a hospital job...well, it was for me...perhaps I've just got very strange teeth!

Yes, the aftermath's not much fun, Bobby...soup for the next four days, is it??!!

All the best, anyhow...

Thank you very much for your messages Marian and Lebiew15. You scared me talking about spider bites Marian, I wondered whether I was to expect pus as well!  ;D

As for you, Paul UK don't make me laugh because it hurts too much!  ;) Hospital jobs are common-place, my girlfriend had her wisdom teeth removed at a hospital - I was just fortunate I could get them pulled out at the dentist nearby.

I tried eating a cornish pasty before the local anesthetic wore off. That was a stupid idea! Now I'm swollen just under my right cheek - I can't get even go to bed because it hurts that much.

Ah well, I'll stay on the computer for a bit longer.  :D

I hate going to the dentist!  It's the worst place.  I just got a crown and it was hell, but your thing sounds worse.  It would have been way worse if they didn't let me listen to 80's music.

They allow you to listen to music at your dentist, Wicked? That would have helped me out a great deal! I would get my 80s music collection out as the 'operation' lasted at least one and a half hours.

:o :oOh my God!That's something you should never do--eat something chewable if you have had anesthetic in your mouth--not worth it! :P :P :PI had soup and ice cream for a few days until i got the stitches out. It's not that bad.If you were a munchie-maniac before, you'll be one again once you completly recover. But please wait until then!Cheers! ;D

I'll take that advice from now on, Marian. It's a shame, I'm not really a soup fan.

My brother is a dentist in Norfolk, Nebraska....I could've hooked you up!  Anyway....he took out 1 that was sideways in 1991 but I still have 3....I could have had them ALL out for free way back in 1979 when I was in the Air Force :-/ I am lucky to have no problems...knock on wood..and I admire you for having the guts to go through what you just did....I hope you feel better quickly :)

Years ago (back when I was in my teens) it was recommended to me that I have my wisdom teeth extracted.  They never bothered me, so I didn't think it was necessary.  Then a couple of years ago I went to my dentist for a routine check-up and he discovered that one of my wisdom teeth had grown in at an angle and was pushing up against the molar next to it, creating a space just big enough for food to get trapped and cause a major cavity!  :o  I ended up having to have that wisdom tooth taken out so that I could have a root canal done on the wisdom tooth.

I'd had teeth pulled before (for braces), but it was never like this.  Having a wisdom tooth pulled was pure agony!  I was sore for weeks after, and even had to get a refill on the pain reliever!  (Sorry Bobby, I hope you won't be in as much discomfort!)

Fortunately my other wisdom teeth grew in normally, so I hope I won't ever have to go through something like this again.

I had three baby teeth pulled in one day, it wasn't pretty.  The dentist gave me gauze to absorb the spit and blood, but it didn't last long.  An with my whole mouth numb, I kept drooling with blood all over.  I just stood over the bathroom sink for an hour or so and let it all come out. lol.

I haven't had my wisdom teeth pulled yet, but I will probably end up having to with this mouth of mine. I guess my mom was lucky, because when she had her's pulled, they put her to sleep. That was some time ago though.

But, Bobby you only have to go through this once in your life, so it's a good thing that you got it over with.  :)

Hi Bobby

Sorry to hear your feeling so poorly.  The mouth does heal very quickly so you should be back, firing on all cylinders, soon.

I hate going to the dentist.  I'd rather have another baby than another root canal.  My dentist has a small video screen on the ceiling that shows tropical fish gliding through the water.  I suppose it is pretty relaxing.  He also has classical music playing which is also soothing.  Mind you his bill reflects all this! Not so relaxing!

I think I've ruined my shirt like that. It is not a dignified experience. Thanks for your encouragement.  :)

Thank you all very much for your 'get well' messages. They make me feel that much more better (alongside a packet of pain-killers).  ;)

Well, if the teeth are grown in straight, they can do it with just a local (some dentists still do general, depending on how much room is back there.)  However, if they are impacted, they must be surgically removed under general anesthesia, usually in a hospital or outpatient surgical center.  Okay, Dentistry 101 lesson over ;D

Bobby, I had mine out about 7 years ago so I (like the others) know what you're going through.  One word of advice...don't even think about drinking through a straw for a couple of days.  I kept reopening my "holes" by doing so, which made the recovery time much longer than necessary.  Also, if the dds gave you an oral syringe to clean out the pockets, warm the water a bit before you use it...cold water hurts like heck!

I've just had a drink of tea (without the aid of a straw) and a bowl of Tomato and Basil soup . I feel a bit better than yesterday. The dentist hasn't given me an oral syringe but I have to get my stitches removed next week so he might give me one then.

Thanks for the encouragement, 80s cheerleader.  :)
