Subject: The Floods of 2003

Written By: Indy Gent on 09/03/03 at 11:08 p.m.

This year has got to be one of the worst years weatherwise, at least in the Midwest. First, the big snowstorms of February, then the April tornados, now two separate floods, including the big Labor Day wash-out. I'll be happy this year ends and hopefully we can get to more "normal" weather. ::)

This summer in Canton, Ohio, we have had neighborhoods flood that have not flooded in over 30 years. The ground was so soaked it just could not hold any more, then it rained like 6 inches in a few hours. Many people lost everything. Houses, cars, all their belongings. It's all very sad.

Now we are bracing for what they say will be a bad winter... :'(

We, in the Southwest, are facing serious drought conditions.
Not that we would want the floods, but we sure could use the rain here. :)
Farmers are losing crops due to the water shortage and ranchers are having to sell off their cattle because they can't depend on there being enough feed for them.
It's really a pretty scary situation for some people.  I work in the agriculture industry and our customers are having a truly tough time.

Well,NYC had it's share of rain, snow, heat and humidity. I think it's gonna be a long winter from what they said,we could see more than 2 feet from last year.perhaps 3 feet. :P

We in the Midwest would love to give you our 9+ inches of rain, kimmers.  ;) And I know you are also dealing with forest fires and a bad economy too. I hope everything works out for you guys in the Southwest. :-*

I guess I fit into the catergory of "midwest". But we haven't had any big snowstorms or floods this year.  I guess this region was missed. It's actually been a really quiet year for the weather. We didn't even get a Snow Day from school last winter (we've had at least 1 Snow Day a year for the past 4 or 5 years :D)! I'm sorta wishing for some extreme weather...

Thanks Indy Gent.  We sure would love for you to be able to send that rain this way.  What's so strange is that it can be so extreme from one region to another.  All or none I guess.
Yeah, the fires have been a big problem too for a lot of places.
Luckily, in my area, we don't have too many but all the good camping spots are getting burned out. :-[
