Subject: Video Games Are Getting Better......
Video Games are quickly growing in acceptability. Even G.W. Bush plays a mean Free Cell on his computer. Video Games for me are literally my main form of Entertainment. Video Games are the new Great Escape from every day doldrums!
This may not reflect so much for Older Adults but, I have literally grown up, raised on just as much video games as I have with T.V.
I have a Nintendo Gamecube, and boy do I enjoy it. I have owned every Nintendo System and I think I am who I am today because of this. What is interesting to me is that for me, my nostalgia is something I can play ( In other words eary Nintendo or Sega games).
There is a buttload of Great games to be coming out starting this week!
Any thoughts on Video Games? Hopefully nobody believes that Video Games make kids violent. Well, Any Thoughts? ;D

When I was younger, I was almost addicted to arcades and blowing quarter after quarter in all the coolest and latest games of the time, including pinball machines. Then, into my household, came the Odyssey, Colleco Vision, Atari 2600 systems, and in the early 90's Nintendo. Yeah, I still hit the arcades, but they were noticeably dying out, unfortunately. :-/
As an adult and in this time of much more advanced technology gaming-wise, I'm more into PC gaming now.
I don't think it's that much more different. Some of today's gaming systems share some of the same games found in PC gaming.
Some of the games I've played over the years:
All types of Pinball, including "TimeShock".
The Journeyman Project
Burried In Time
Legacy Of Time
Myst
Riven
Zork
Blade Runner
Quake
Light House
Amber
Half Life
No One Lives Forever
Star Wars Jedi Knight
Star Wars Jedi Outcast
And that's just off the top of my head. ;D

I isolated some of your statements to comment on them.
I thought video games were always acceptable! ;D
I agree that they are a great form of escapism.
I too grew-up a video game fan.
I too can play games which throw me back into good, simpler times. Gaming nostalgia, who would have thought? ;)
As far as video games making kids violent, I don't believe that at all. I think it's all about parenting and how the children are raised. But that's a whole other topic.
Besides, nowadays most games have "parental control" settings, which can be set to never display blood, death or violence. Well, at least in the PC form anyway. 8)

I don't like video games, except for those boat racing ones. Some people play video games way too much though, when people play video games too much it seems to me like a waste of time.

Video games have been around since the 70's, I remember playing "Pong" when I was a little one. I'm 37 now and still enjoy them, I play Team Fortress online quite a bit.
As a young teen Astroids was my favorite, it came out maybe 1980 or so? We had Colecovision too, that one was good. There was a lull in my video gaming until computers became more available, I started on those with Wolf 3D, Duke Nukem, Doom, Quake, and the rest. I still think Half Life is the best and am looking forward to the new addition coming this fall.
Video games certainly can waste your time, but I'd rather play TFC online than watch most TV.

I never liked the shoot em up games, basically cos I was crap at them.
I used to sit for hours playing Hobbit, Lord Of The Rings and Colditz on my ZX Spectrum.
They were fantastic role playing games for their day...I never did escape from Colditz though.

I'm not good at shooting games either, I can't aim, and I can't move the little person so I always get stuck in the corner. Everytime I would try to play one of those games, my brother would get mad because I keep losing and he would end up playing the game instead. :-/

I just bought a game called "Stronghold". It is an RTS game where you can build your own Castle. The real fun is when you play the campaigns, and fight computer characters such as "The Snake", "The Rat" and "The Pig". It was well worth the $30, and to top it off, it included the sequel: "Stronghold Crusaders".

There was an earlier game by this name that was produced by TSR (the Dungeons and Dragons people). You basically built a stronghold with a variety of character types and had to defend it against various monsters etc. It's not related to the newer game. I actually still play it from time to time, but Age of Empires and similar games are much better.

I have a Playstation 2 and I only own 2 proper games on that format. They're The Simpsons Road Rage and Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex. CBTWOC is better than the other Crash games because the graphics are better, although I like Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped. I also like the Spyro the Dragon games but only have the first one. I borrowed two of them on normal Playstation format. PS2s are fab because you can play both PS2 and PS1 format games, play audio CDs and watch DVDs on them.

That was the main reason I purchased a PS2. I have so many PS1 games that I didn't want to have to throw away. They were smart to develop a new game console that is still compatible with the older games.
I don't play games as often as I used to but my daughter sure does. I like platform games the most, some shooters but not very many. I loved all the Tomb Raider games---those I was addicted to since PS1. The more colorful the game the better for me.

Video games were always acceptable. I absolutely love them! I have an X-Box but used to have a Playstation 2. I can´t wait for WWE Raw 2: Ruthless Aggression to come out!
I have got into my PC games as well. I have Sim City 4, Championship Manager 3, Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 amongst others.
Does anybody do any retro gaming? I love using my Spectrum Emulator on the PC - Wow! It brings back memories. ::)
