Subject: Pop Culture Icons
Have any of you guys seen 200 Greatest Pop Culture Icons on VH1? I have, it was pretty good, actually.
Subject: Re: Pop Culture Icons
It was OK, but I 100% diagree with the #1 icon: Orprah Winfrey.
And many celebs were poorly ranked. C'mon, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, and cast of "Friends" on the top 20!?!
I liked, besides my favorite celebs ranked, the caricatures shown.
There's actually some celebs/characters not mentioned like Hulk Hogan, Tony Hawk, Robin Hood, James Bond, Rudolph Valentino, L L Cool J, Vanna White, and the 5 original MTV VJs.
Subject: Re: Pop Culture Icons
Elvis was definetely supposed to be #1
Subject: Re: Pop Culture Icons
I have cought a few installments of it and I haven't agreed with much of them either.
It kinda reminded me of when VH-1 released "their" list of the Top 100 songs and placed Britney, NStink, and a few others in the top rankings, when obviously they didn't belong there at all.
Persoanlly I think VH-1 is desperately trying to appeal to the younger MTV crowd with these lists by placing the likes of Britney Spears, the cast of Friends, J Lo, etc in the top rankings even though they don't belong there. Because it gives VH-1 the image of being a more hip network, and I think they are trying to get more younger people to tune in.

I thought the ranking was ridiculously skewed to the now, throughout.
Hey I just noticed there was no Brando in that list. No Sean Connery either. James Gandolfini made it though.
And looking through it some more, no Chuck Berry, no Jerry Lee Lewis, no Little Richard... but there is Ricky Martin.
Besides, would YOU trust any list that put Bugs Bunny behind Mickey Mouse?

well Im a regular at the vh1 "The Greatest board" and you should really read what some of these people(flooders) say...always somethign to complain about...but Ive gotta say that the Opra thing is the most complained about...

I'm pretty sure Sean Connery did make the list though I could be wrong.

Maybe they're trying to get some ideas for future episodes of "Where Are They Now?" ;)

Oh, and Monica Lewinsky was listed to!?!
With Justin Timberlake, P Diddy, the cast of "Friends", Judge Judy, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Reese Witherspoon, and Eminem. :P
And I like Katie Couric, but I don't think she should be ranked on the top 40.
A current celeb that should've been on this list: Brittany Murphy

you know what, thats a good possiblilty. Considering the lame people they considered for the lists.
I am certian they dohave alternative motives with these lists though. They need a newer, younger audience.
Subject: Re: Pop Culture Icons
They still had a decent list, but in 50 years citizens WILL NOT remember Oprah Winfrey but they WILL remember Elvis.
