Justin Timberlake Joins Stones At Toronto Benefit, Gets Pelted With Garbage

TORONTO — In perhaps his most memorable cameo since donning a furry dolphin suit at a Flaming Lips performance, Justin Timberlake joined Mick Jagger and the rest of the Rolling Stones onstage during the veteran rock band's set at the concert for Toronto on Wednesday night.

The afternoon kicked off on a low point for Timberlake when a concertgoer's sign questioning the singer's sexuality made it to the jumbotrons for about 15 seconds. Timberlake took to the stage with an obvious awareness of audience cynicism, beginning his set with a small attempt to mitigate the crowd's frustration: "This will be over before you know it."

During his mini-set of "Cry Me a River," "Senorita" and "Rock Your Body," Justin gracefully dodged water bottles flung by anti-pop audience members, and winced slightly at their less than playful jeers. After quietly thanking the city of Toronto for generally being welcoming to him and his tour crew, Timberlake left the stage to make way for more crowd-pleasing acts including the Guess Who, Rush, AC/DC and headliners the Rolling Stones.

Justin got his sweet revenge, though, when Jagger invited him onstage for what appeared to be an unrehearsed performance of "Miss You," in which Timberlake mimicked Jagger's signature sways and echoed his vocals. In a clearly forced but effective fusion of classic rock and bubblegum pop, Jagger even sang the words "cry me a river" for several repetitions with Timberlake. And though the audience still managed to sling a few bottles Timberlake's way, guitarist Keith Richards exhibited remarkable tenacity, as he angrily motioned to the crowd to show the pop star a little respect(hey keef, just take your black tar heroin and shut up).

Timberlake hugged Jagger and thanked each Rolling Stone by his first name, then humbly (or perhaps strategically) made a quick exit.

LOL!:D

Why would Justin Timberlame join the benefit concert (with mostly rock greats) in the first place?

I would throw a tomato too if I were to be in the audience.

That's like if Christina Aguilera joined "Lollapalooza".

That's really funny.  If I had the chance, I would through Bob's (tomatoes) and Larry's (cucumbers) at him too.

I hate Justin's music, but he seems like an alright guy. His music is cheesy, soulless and pre-packaged, but he has shown that he can take a joke. According to the article, he showed some poise out there.

Hate him if you want, but don't be idiots about it.

Actually  i liked 'Cry Me a River' and i thought there was some proper emotion in that.  I'm yet to hear another decent track from him though.

Well I can't say I agree with this. Someone might have hit one of the Stones! In other developments, Fred Durst suffered the same fate during his band's tour with Metallica last week. I fell about laughing when I heard that!

Now THAT would be something to see. ;D

but seriously, what was this chump doing there anyway?  Did his tour bus make a wrong tunr on the way to Shaboigan(sp?). :D

I cannot beleive he would even consider himself worthy of standing on the same stage as the other performers at the concert.

I thought that too. Then I remembered I read somewhere that the Rolling Stones are so cool, they're one of the few groups out there who do not think themselves better than anyone. Goodness knows if any group has any right to possibly think that, it's them.

Thus, Justin Timberlake's sense of worth has little or nothing to do with this fiasco. Mick Jagger encouraged the whole thing. Maybe he wanted to lend a helping hand to a fellow singer? Perhaps he attempted to reach out to the young 'uns with what he considered to be the top teeny-bopper idol? Maybe Mick sees a young version of himself in him?  ???

The Fred Durst thing was even better than the Justin thing.  All Justin Timberlake did was make horrible music.  Fred Durst, by comparison, made himself look like a complete a-hole for thirty minutes and got exactly what he deserved.

I guess Justin was then "Justified"  afterward when he was able to go on stage and sing with Mick.  It was like Mick saying "he's got my seal of approval and if you don't like it bugger off!"

Justin sure seems out of place with all those big ROCK bands.  But, his offer to help out the citizens of Toronto is commendable.

Appearantly his teenybopper crowd didnt care to follow him around (hell most of his fans have probably have no idea who the Stones, Rush, Guess Who or AC/DC are).  Hopefully this is all the beginning of a huge pop backlash Ive been waiting for a long time.  Its a nice literal slap in the face to all the Justins, Christinas and Britneys that proves lots of people cant stand them.  Maybe this incident will prove once and all to the corporate suits that people still love their rock n' roll.

Ok I don't like the guys music but there is no reason to throw something at somebody just because you don't like their music. They don't even know Justin personally so what beef do they have with him to start throwing things? So what they don't like his music? Big Deal.

Amen to that!

I read this article and literally laughed to myself.  I too saw it as a slap in the face of modern pop music.  It was a statement that was long overdue. ;)

I didn't really find it funny either.  I cannot stand Justin Timerlake but he was trying to help people out at a benefit concert and this is what he gets.  Nice. >:(

the people weren't there to see Justin Timberlake, they were there for real rock n roll.

it was cool that they pelted him with garbage, but the biggest insult would be if people just ignored him, got up and left.

That true.

I would be very ticked if I went to a ROCk concert expecting to see Rolling Stones, Rush, and the others mentioned, and suddenly this chump Justin Timberlake comes out and starts singing his little teeny bop garbage.

Perhaps the garbage people were throwing was a signal to him that his music...is garbage? :)

So what if you don't like the guy's music then leave. To throw water bottles at somebody is just bone-headed. The event was for charity. Imagine if you had water bottles thrown at you. Would you like it? Probably not.

That's right.

If he was good enough to be backed-up and presented by The Stones, he's good enough for those people to have:

1) Showed him human decency
2) Ignored him
3) Walked out on him

Throwing things was uncivilized.

If you don't like an artist's music, it should not translate into anything personal. These artists's are people too.

When I first heard about the Stones concert I thought - right on!  When I heard that AC/DC, RUSH, and Justin Timberlake were joining them I went - "AWESOME! Who the he!! is Justing Timberlake??"   ;D

I must be getting old and out of touch.  I've never heard of this guy until this concert came out.  :P

You don't leave after you've paid a lot of money for a concert.
