Subject: Left Or Right..
Handed....or both maybe?
My dad always told me left handed people were brainier, no surprise that he was left handed himself.
I'm proof to the contrary (i'm left handed and thick, not right handed and intelligent btw)
Moral: Don't always believe your father!
So which are you?
Subject: Re: Left Or Right..
I use my right hand for most things, but my left hand for the thing i do most often ;) :P
Subject: Re: Left Or Right..
you don't use both hands for typing then?
Subject: Re: Left Or Right..
Hewo! :)
I'm right handed, but I do a lot of things left-handed, like batting, hockey, and I usually drive to my left in basketball. I also feel that I have a very creative mind and I love my imagination :) So I guess in that sense I'm right-brained.
I think I'm right handed because they beat the left-handedness out of me when I was a kid ;D Left-handed people were considered taboo or something back in those days :-/ Which might explain why the Latin sinister means left-handed, and the word now means what it means.

No. My right hand is on the mouse.

I wonder who decided writing with the left hand was wrong? Obviously a right handed writer...

I knew that...
Subject: Re: Left Or Right..
Right-handed in almost (nay, everything I do....)
- yet one of my sisters is left-handed....
Can't remember where I read it from, but I think it has something to do with how your brain lies - i.e., slightly left or right of centre...not 100% sure, any medics on board?
Subject: Re: Left Or Right..
One thing left-handers (like me) always seem to know more about is left-handedness ;-) It's a dominance of the right side of the brain (hence the T-Shirt that says "only left-handers are in their right minds), and while there is no correlation with intelligence, there are some right-brain sort of things at which left-handers often excel. Exactly which ones escape me for the moment.
Incidentally, my wife and three out of four children are also left-handed... my elder daughter is the only one in six to be right-handed, poor thing

Subject: Re: Left Or Right..
Right handed. Can't use the left hand for anything save playing the piano and typing. Had to train it to type same speed as the right. That was a job and a half.
I'll try and dig out some psychology books about right brain / left brain stuff too at some point. I'm much more holistic, so I'm told. Makes it a pain in the arse for the college psychologist...
Edited to add: I find it easier to play soccer with my left foot, seeing as the right is the leadoff for any kick I try and make...
Subject: Re: Left Or Right..
i write and draw right-handed. however, i golf and play (or attempt to, anyway) baseball left-handed. but i'm practicing to become ambidextirous.
Subject: Re: Left Or Right..
I am right-handed (and right-footed ;)) but I do try to do things with my left hand-type, etc. I have tried to write with my left hand. I thought my handwritting with my right hand was bad but no one could read what I wrote with my left. ;)

when i try to write with my left hand, if i don't pay close enough attention, i end up writing backwards. it's pretty weird. :o :D

I'm right-handed, but I can paint my nails and type with both hands.
Subject: Re: Left Or Right..
Right handed for most tasks like writing. Biggest exception is left for batting in baseball.
Modified to add: I type with both hands, and there is one other thing that take two hands. ;)

but you know, Boris, back in biblical times, the left handed people were known to be worshipers of Satan...thats why traditionally, the groom stands on the right side of the bride because he could easily defend her by his sword being on his left side. If he was left handed, he would be somewhere else being treated unfairly because he was suposed to be the devil...

What is interesting is that I am a "right-handed" guitar player which means I use my left hand to finger the fretboard. Left-handed guitar players use their right hand to do likewise...

I'm right handed and my husband is a lefty. Two of the trips are rights and one left.

Ooooh, this was so obvious I almost missed the opportunity:

I tried one time to write with my left hand but I wrote too sloppy.Has anyone tried to write with the other hand?
Howard
Subject: Re: Left Or Right..
I'm right-handed and I find that I'm pretty clumsy and uncoordinated trying to do anything with my left hand - writing, throwing, catching etc. The only exception is playing guitar where, like gamblefish, I finger the fretboard with my left hand. But then left-handed people (e.g. Paul McCartney) usually finger the fretboard with their right hand, don't they?

PS I play guitar right-handed (i.e. left hand on the fretboard)... it's never felt right the other way round, but it might explain why I'm lousy at playing lead...

Subject: Re: Left Or Right..
I am right handed, but here's an interesting fact:-
I once watched a documentary about being left-handed, and a scientist on it held the theory that all left-handed people were originally one of twins.
Apparently many twins are so-called "Mirror twins", where one of them is left handed / footed and the other is the complete opposite, being right-handed etc.
The scientist believed that often one of these twins would die in the very early stages of pregnancy when it was too early to be detected, and any left-handed babies are merely survivors of this.
Subject: Re: Left Or Right..
that's a kind of scary thought kay.

Not exactly... Rice's original quote is from The Princess Bride - IMO one of the best duelling scenes since Errol Flynn stopped making movies: the Star Wars "quote" was itself a parody on the original.
Funny (well, vaguely droll) story: back when The Princess Bride was released, I had long, thick hair and a moustache just like Inigo... a couple of friends came round and said "Phil, we've just seen this film with you in it..." so when I went round to their place to watch the video, my immediate comment was "Ah... but he's not left-handed". So when the duel scene started with both fencing left-handed...
OK, so it was funny at the time ;-)

Er... he's wrong: twins are approximately 1 in 200 births (and the vast majority of identical twins are same-handed... "mirror" twins are scarce, even amongst twins), whereas left-handedness is approximately 1 in 8... if you do the maths, although the occasional left-hander may be in that category, there ain't no way it can account for all of us.

I got all excited when I saw this thread. I thought it was some heated political debate... Oh well...
I'm right handed. I don't know about that whole "left handed=creative" thing. The two people with the highest average in my art class were both right handed (art is not an easy 'A' in my school).
