Subject: I have a problem..had a problem...fixed :-)
I know this isn't a techie forum but i'm hoping someone can help!
I keep getting a pop up from Messenger Service which says something about WWW.ATPARTYetc it then gives my ip address, date and time.
I'm not going to visit the site because i've no idea what it is or where i've got it from and knowing my luck it'll be a virus or something.
I just want to know how to stop it popping up frequently!
I've checked programs running and it doesn't show anything.
Any ideas??

oh and nothing shows up on Ad-aware >:(

Have you tried adaware? It is free for personal use, and you can get it here: www.lavasoftusa.com
Also to prevent pop-ups I recomend "Google Toolbar Beta 2.0"
you can get it here:
http://toolbar.google.com/index-beta.php
Also I sugest you check your homepage settings. I had a dialer once that I could not delete. the stupid thing reset my homepage. I didn't notice because it only poped up for a split second before redirecting me to my original homepage. What it would do is read the number of a certain word on a web page, then give me about 30 pop ups, all in russian. really anoying. Programs similiar to this are very hard to get rid of. I had to reformat my hard drive to stop it.

thanks for the reply screwball
lol you must have posted as i did...adaware's not showing anything.
I use hotmail as my homepage and that's still fine.
This is like a little pop up, not a full page or anything and i've no idea where it's come from.
I find pop up stoppers more trouble than they're worth cos I use right click and open in a new window too much which pop up stoppers seem to stop me doing....or maybe i'm doing it wrong?
i had a problem once with one of those diallers...picked it up from a music site of all places

This google pop-up stopper doesn't block user defined pop-ups. I opened this reply in a new window, and it worked just fine. Plus it is free, so it can't hurt.

I think i've found a solution, apparantly it's a Windows thing!

In their initial state, Microsoft Windows operating systems (98, ME, XP, 2000, NT) allow anyone on the internet to pop up Windows on your screen. There is no need for them to know anything about your computer and your computer does not care who does it.
I'll give your pop up killer a go too...there's bound to be one i have luck with :)
