The guy is right. And there are a bunch of orgs he didn't mention, like an org of conservative lawyers and jurists called the Federalist Society. All these groups are financed by some of the richest people in the country (who all just got massive tax cuts).
The problem is that the "liberal" critique starts with the same basic assumptions about political economy as the neocons. They got there $$$ the same way, and have the same interests. The difference is in how the two camps think it best to protect those interests. Both act within the dominant paradigm, both think "within the box". They don't argue over yes/no, they argue over how much/how little.
We DO need an active left in this country, but not the liberal establishment. We need a real left - a left labor movement. And we can't look to the liberal fat cats to support that.

He's trying to rally the troops. Problem: we aren't troops and you can't rally Dems, they are too busy worrying about things to blindly follow a think tank.

I mean, look where my tie points, oh, gee, am I not in touch with my feminine side? Can we get Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon and Sean Pencilhead, I mean, Penn, to advise us?"
Conservatives say, GET ME FIVE WHITE GUYS TO DO THIS THING PRONTO!"
And it gets done! Boom! HAHAHAHAHAHA!

And you know this why? Because you sit in on both liberal and conservative think tanks? My first thought is that you don't know s... from Sunday. And, IMHO, the right wing neocons are experiencing their last hurrah. They will be lucky if Little Georgie serves out his term. He is a lying, draft dodging, coke snorting little f... who deserves to be impeached. And LOTS of people are coming to that conslusion.
