Subject: Top 100 Music Videos of All Time
This was never mentioned on this board.
It's the top 100 music videos ever made. Compiled by MTV.
Though it's about 5 years old, but it's still an interesting list.
:D On the bright side: Eminem & Britney were just coming out when this list was made.

Videos that I think should've made the cut:
Genesis "Land Of Confusion"
Neil Young "This Notes For You"
Duran Duran "Rio"
Billy Joel "We Didn't Start The Fire"
The Clash "Rock The Casbah"
Faith No More "Epic"
Madonna "Material Girl"
Billy Idol "White Wedding"
Men Without Hats "The Safety Dance"
Van Halen "Hot For Teacher"
Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band "Dancing In The Dark"
Michael Jackson "Bad"
Talking Heads "Burning Down The House"
Soundgarden "Black Hole Sun"
Jane's Addiction "Been Caught Stealing"
The Smashing Pumpkins "Tonight, Tonight"
Red Hot Chili Peppers "Under The Bridge"
U2 "With Or Without You"
Janet Jackson "What Have You Done For Me Lately"
The B-52's "Love Shack"
(To Name A Few)

Whatever, man. "Without Me" is a great video.
Quoting:Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band "Dancing In The Dark"

No. Just flat no.
There were a few good out-there choices (The Chemical Brothers, The Replacements) and a few head-scratchers. I mean, I love Method Man and all, but I don't see what was so great about the "You're All I Need" video. Ditto for the Garbage video.
Subject: Re: Top 100 Music Videos of All Time
I really don't get why "Nothing Compares 2 U" is number 34. It is basically a close-up of Sinead O'Connor's bald head--if THIS made the list, Alanis Morissette's "Head Over Feet" should have made it also.
Subject: Re: Top 100 Music Videos of All Time
I think "November Rain" should be on the top 10 position.
The same with A Ha's "Take On Me".
I like the fact videos from The Cure, New Order, and Madness are on the list. 8)
With other '80's classics like INXS "Need You Tonight/Mediate", The Cars "You Might Think", Twisted Sister "We're Not Gonna Take It", Cyndi Lauper "Girls Just Want To Have Fun", Duran Duran "Hungry Like The Wolf", etc.

Vh1 did a fairly decent (surprisingly) top 100 video list....there were a few missing off that too......
and I agree with kenny...Dancing in the dark is not a good video..but then again, I dont enjoy videos as much because I feel that that was the begining of the downfall of music........
Subject: Re: Top 100 Music Videos of All Time
oh and "Pour some sugar on me" does not belong there unless they mean the original video that they made for it that featured a lesbian in a wrecking ball destroying a house...yes, Im serrious
Subject: A good topic to bump...
Some of my favorites from the list are:
"Close To Me" (The Cure)
"Need You Tonight/Mediate" (INXS)
"Everybody Hurts" (REM)
"Girls On Film" (Duran Duran)
"(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)" (Beastie Boys)
"We're Not Gonna Take It" (Twisted Sister)
"Cradle Of Love" (Billy Idol)
"1979" (The Smashing Pumpkins)
"Don't Come Around Here No More" (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers)
"Just A Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody" (David Lee Roth)
"Parents Just Don't Understand" (DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince)
"You Might Think" (The Cars)
"Rhythm Nation" (Janet Jackson)
"Whip It" (Devo)
"Closer" (Nine Inch Nails)
And some that actually stink! :P
Here's what I think should've been the top 15: 8)
Out of the videos on the list
15. Metallica "One"
14. TLC "Waterfalls"
13. Michael Jackson "Beat It"
12. REM "Losing My Relgion"
11. Run DMC featuring Aerosmith "Walk This Way"
10. Pearl Jam "Jeremy"
9. Duran Duran "Hungry Like The Wolf"
8. Madonna "Vogue"
7. Tu Pac featuring Dr. Dre "California Love"
6. A-Ha "Take On Me"
5. Guns N' Roses "November Rain"
4. Beastie Boys "Sabotage"
3. Nirvana "Smells Like Teen Spirit"
2. Peter Gabriel "Sledgehammer"
1. Michael Jackson "Thriller"

Maybe because it was the most requested video on "Dial MTV" for 86 days in 1988/1989.

Too bad most music videos have nothing to do with music or songs.

I'm with you there, Billy - What a brilliant video.
I think the whole thing was studio based but it was great to see everything literally fall apart around them as they were playing.
Subject: Re: Top 100 Music Videos of All Time
I liked the campy videos by Mike & The Mechanics....Taken In and All I Need Is A Miracle....they had everything to do with the song :D I also think November Rain was a great video....too bad Axl felt the need to beat up Stephanie Seymour and his first wife...what a pathetic loser >:(

Here's VH1's list:

I'll write up my opinion later. :)

I can't believe the Culture Club's "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" was not listed, but there was Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U" instead, which must be the most boring music video!

"Do You Really Want To Hurt Me" (Culture Club) was ranked on VH1's Top 100 Music Videos list at #86. :)
Have to agree that the Sinead O'Connor video is boring.
Though there's also a lot of great videos on VH1's list that were ranked at the bottom of the list like "(You Gotta Fight) For Your Right (To Party)" (Beastie Boys), "One" (Metallica), and "Need You Tonight/Mediate" (INXS).
Plus, like the MTV list, there's a couple videos that plain stunk. Britney Spears, Ricky Martin, Creed, Shania Twain?
C'mon. :P
About the Shania Twain video:
Though I loathe country music , VH1 might as well put a better video like "Breathe" (Faith Hill) instead. It was a better video compared to the Shania Twain video with her hitch hiking & wearing an out fit like if she bout it at a former member of the Spice Girl's yard sale.
Subject: Re: Top 100 Music Videos of All Time
I can't argue with some of the entries on the list, even though a couple might not be worthy of being considered one of the greatest videos of all time.
I was happy to see Adam Ant actually on the list, even though I wish it could've been Stand and Deliver or something like that instead of Goody Two Shoes.Typical me right? ;D

Did any of the Cult's videos make the list? "Fire Woman" should definitely be on there! Ian Astbury looks and sounds soooooo hot on that video!! And Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" is cool too! And did any Rage Against the Machine vids make it to the Top 100? "Bulls On Parade" and "Guerilla Radio" should be there!

:oare LIVE's "I Alone" and "Lightning Crashes" on the list? ::)
