Subject: Breakthrough Artist of the 00's

Written By: BigL2003 on 07/08/03 at 04:06 a.m.

I've been wondering what new, or present musicians of today will make it really big that in say, 10-20 years we will still remember them as being musical legends (or just a great band or artist) There has been alot of crap, sure (Nsync, Britney, Avril; etc). Thats normal for every era of music.

So who do you think will be seen as the next Nirvana or the next Rolling Stones?

I'll put who i think:
- Queens of the Stone Age
- Deftones
- U2 (possibly more 80s and 90s though)
- Foo Fighters
- Audioslave

I don't know if I'd say U2 will breakthrough in the 00s. I think they will slowly fade away, actually. I agree with your other selections however, and perhaps add Coldplay to the list. Whether any of them will be the next Nirvana is doubtful, but they will certainly be popular in the next few years.

I keep hoping Ben Folds breaks through, but in all likelihood he will remain on the level of, say, Randy Newman.

Fountains of Wayne are looking to make a significant breakthrough with their next album.

Beyonce will likely become the next Janet.

Much as I dislike them, Linkin Park might have some surprising longevity in them.

The White Stripes are pretty big right now.

Yeah, you'd be right bout u2. I sorta hesitated when i put Audioslave there, even though they are doing very well at the moment, it seems like a bit of a phase with all these people from old bands forming new ones (Zwan, Audioslave etc) But you never know, thats what some people thougfht when Dave Grohl created the Foo Fighters...
