Subject: Question about messed up tapes.
Yesterday, much to my happiness, I found an old tape with Muppet Babies and Full House on it. The best part of the tape, was of course, the commercials circa 1991, especially the Fox Kids Network bumpers with that cute little duck. But, the tape, of course, skipped about every three seconds. My question is(if it sounds stupid excuse me), if i transferred it to another tape, or DVD, would it pick up the mess ups? Please help!

It depends on what you mean by "skips".
If you mean video drops, then it is likely the tape and not the machine. Have you tried rolling the tape in another VHS player and, if so, did it "skip" in that machine?
Because you chose the word "skip", I am leaning, unfortunately, toward "erased", especially if the timing between "skips" is consistant. :-[

If by "skips" you mean that the image jumps, my friend in our TV dept. tells me that it has to do with the magnetic tracking track on the video. It can be enhanced, but it is costly. IU have a few Jeremy Brett "Shelock Holmes" tapes that do that on one of my VCRs but not on another. I think that if you ttry to re-record the tape on a machine where it "skips" you will get the skip on the new recording. Try it on different machines to see what happens. Some are more sensitive than others. You might also try to clean the heads on your VCR. There are head cleaner tapes that don't use liquid, which is good.
Hope this helps.
