The UK intelligence service have alerted higher education establishments to the risks of overseas students from 10 "suspect" countries applying to study particular subjects.

The subjects inlcude particle physics, biochemistry and...wait for it...ceramics!

Ceramics Fanatic - is there something we should know??

Not being a physisist I may be wrong about this, but I think there are weapons applications that rely on sophisticated ceramic science.

red clay does leave nasty stains on your clothing!  and it sometimes explodes in the kiln. :o

Certainly folks like CerF are not doing the kinds of stuff that can yeild weapons.  My understanding is that advanced ceramics can.  Don't know for sure, but looking at this might make sense.

Advanced ceramic science is utilised in the construction of bombs. Artillery shells can also be made using ceramic casings. Ceramics can't be destected by airport metal detectors, so they are ideal for bomb casings. Guns and firearms can also be made from ceramics, and regular weapons can be modified to fire ceramic bullets. So if someone applied to study biochemistry, particle physics AND ceramic science, I'd suspect they were going to make one mother of a toxic weapon.
