Subject: Happy Father's Day
Since he is the only parent living in our house, I would like to wish everyone a Happy Father's Day. And remember, not all dad's like sports items. ;D

Since I cannot wish my father a happy fathers day...I wish one for yours. Tell your Dads how much you love 'em kids....things happen in the blink of an eye..and you may not always have that chance! Give 'em hugs and kisses and tell them how much they mean to you! :)

Yes, I've just been having a drink or several with my old man who (despite being several points of view away from mine) is still a great bloke...

Cat and I have been on the boat for a few days, and EVERY DECK OF CARDS was damp and moldy - so we listened to lots of public radio. As I listened to so many "rememberances of father" programs the one thing that struck me was a Bill Moyers video with poet Robert Bly called A Gathering of Men/u]. Bly says lots, and I don't buy all of it, but one thing he says rings true. Men, he said, have a profound sadness. He attributes it to the sadness for all the animals our male anscestors killed so that we would survive. "Race memory" is an idea that is intruiging idea, and what Bly is suggesting. I'm not sure I buy it. On the other hand, we were anchored last night, fishing, and I pulled in a 14 inch small mouth bass. Maybe 3 1/2 - 4 lbs. a real good fish - and bass taste sooo good. But we already had lots of food. WE photographed it twice, and measured it, and held it for a while - awaiting death. Then I let it go. Eased it back into the lake with my blessing on it. It should grow, multiply, and thrive.
It was a fish!
It was my spirit that was renewed. To go back to Robert Bly, I did't have to kill, so I could revel in the wonder of this other creature, and I could, on this day, vindicate in a small way, our hunter ancestors (at the same time, I love venison).
I know these are (somewhat) inchoherent ramblings, and to those of you who demand strick adherence to the topic, I appologise. I just have so many thought, as a father, that carime (sp) through my mind. Sad "Cat's in the cradle and silver spoon". I guess that ever father could think of how, at some point, he could have been "better", could have made better contact. I konw I do, and some of those instances make me ashamed of how I behaved, not only as a father, but as a man.
On the other hand, and I'll take the liberty to changes the words a bit, "we HAD a good time then, kids, we had a good time then".
Certainly there were may, more keep coming to mind as I think on it. In fact, my children remind me of some I have let slip from my aging memory.
Still, to return to Robert Bly, I agree with him. Why should I? Actually, no reason. I love, and am loved by a fantastic woman. I have 4 kids that love me, and honor me as their father. I have a job I love, that alows me to help young people learn to think, not as I do but AS I do, for themselves. And still, with all these advantages, which enrigh my life and make me VERY happy, I still feel a profound saddnerss in my soul. No woman's love, no children's respect, no acadamic adoration, as wonderful as all these are
they seem enough.
I've you all bored to much...
Happy Fathers Day

My sis and I gave our dad lots of chocolate. I gave him a Toblerone and my sis gave him a Cadbury's Dairy Milk bar that weighs a kilo. We even gave him cards with Bubblegum characters on the front. Unfortunately, he went to London and will not come back until this evening. :'( Luckily, we'll be sharing out the 1kg bar of CDM. Has anyone else heard of that chocolate bar?
