Subject: Jewel Goes Pop
Has anyone listened to her new album or her hit single "Intuition"? The song is okay, but I fear Jewel may have sold out to the Britney crowd. Whadda you think?

She used to write thoughtful and insightful tunes about the human condition. Now she's performing rubbish, and she looks like a sl*t. The machine did the same thing to Leeanne Rimes (not that I was a fan of hers).

I've only heard "Intuition" from Jewel's new album, but that song alone doesn't convince me that she's given in, considering the song is about "selling yourself". Plus, watch the video, it basically mocks the pop industry today. I found it particularly hilarious when she was in front of the sign that said "Big Pimpin"". :D

Jewel is trying to follow Gwen Stefani's lead from 90's rocker girl into 00's pop diva. And in my opinion, it's not working, but it's a better direction than continuing the same folky dreck that was stale by the second album.
And while the sound may be different, you wouldn't be able to tell just by the lyrics that "Intuition" was anything but standard Jewel.

I haven't heard the new single yet, but her stuff from the past was decent. I especially liked that song Under The Water from The Craft soundtrack. Great tune.

I agree that she may have needed a new direction. But not this. If it's satire, it's very good, but if it's some label head's idea to push her as a sophisticated Britney Spears, they should die now.

I don't think you can call Jewel a 90s rocker girl...however, I believe the new song is meant to be tongue-in-cheek...especially when you see the video that accompanies it. I think she looked better before too but I really like the song and the video and think it's a total stab at the music industry of late...

I haven't heard any of her recent songs, but I did like some of her older stuff, post-foolish games. I love 'Down So Long' and 'Hands', 'Deep Water' and 'Innocence Maintained' are good little 'folky' songs. I can't imagine her going pop, but will download the aforementioned song and see :)

Tongue-in-cheek my (butt). She can say she did it for whatever reason, the end result is that she's dancing in skimpy outfits and getting sprayed with a firehose.
This is for Jewel what "Love is a Battlefield" is for Pat Benatar; a ridiculous mess of a video, a terrible song (that goes for Pat Benatar too, for the record), just an all around bad idea.
When I heard Jewel was trying to do a hiphop/dance/folk record, I thought, good for her, she needed a change in direction and this sounds like it would be interesting. Not necessarily good, but interesting. And so far, it's been bad, very bad, but interestingly bad.

I think she looked great on the VH1-Divas show. But she looked really uncomfortable to me. Did anyone else that saw the show notice the trouble she was having walking & standing on stage in those high heels? If she's going to play the part, she needs a little more practice IMO.
As far as her new music, I don't really like it. I prefer the old Jewel....no make-up, an acoustic guitar, Birkenstocks, jeans & a granola bar in hand. She was real back then, not just another Industry puppet. :(
Hmmmwell, she was good while she lasted. :)

Stardard Pop fare. Nothing to rave about. I guess I would feel the change if her music had sounded good to me in the first place. At least now, we get a showgirl.

What an interesting concept.

That'll only get the young males more turned on to it.
Jewel's has worn skimpy outfits before (and she's a native of Alaska! :o)), but at least her music more than made up for it. I can't say that now. P.S.: Her album got raves in USA Today.

It's obvious that she is trying to change her image......I find it funny to watch in a backwards step of evolution kind of way....

Nice.
Subject: Re: Jewel Goes Pop
I have heard new parts of her song and it sounds like everything else. R&B singers have sold out to the hip-hop trend and now singer-songwriters are doing it. Its just standard practice in the music industry to sell out now. I don't get why everybody wants to sound like a rapper now(maybe to seem hip to the young crowd.) I don't really like Jewel but "Foolish Games" is a definite classic so is "Hands".

Are they Jewel's or is it someone else's body with her head attached? ;D

It's about time that girl shakes her moneymaker. She's made it thus far on talent alone. Throw in some porcelain veneers, fake boobies, hair extensions and a really awesome make-up artist and you've got talent AND beauty. She's super talented, she's got no where to go but up. I'm sure if this doens't work for her she's not gonna drive it into the ground. Above talent and beauty this chick is mega smart.
Subject: Re: Jewel Goes Pop
Jewel maybe a good Britney clone and she's certainly more beautiful and talented than Brit, Christina or the other clones. But I'll wait until I can check it out of the library before I waste 20 bucks on a CD. :-/
