Subject: Another gross topic!!!
:P :P :PNot as gross as the worst way to die one,but how many here have had head lice, and how did you get rid of it??I've never had it,BTW!Cheers! :D
Subject: Re: Another gross topic!!!
Personally, I've never had it.
But, my nieces got it last year from another child at their school and it was a major pain, to say the least.
They had to use a special shampoo for a long time to kill the eggs(I don't remember for how long). Their parents had to do daily inspections on their head for up to six months to make sure it was all gone. Plus as a precaution, they had their house professionally "de-loused" using a chemical fog procedure to make sure there were no eggs in the carpet and furniture etc.
As gross as it is, its actually really common for young school kids to get it from another kid, who got it from another kid, and so on and so on...

They very rarely, if ever go on dyed hair apparently so I've never had them !.Those electronic combs are meant to be brilliant.
Subject: Re: Another gross topic!!!
My daughter's had them and I caught them once off her.
Comb hair at least twice a day. It breaks their legs and so they can't mate.
Wash hair with a tea-tree oil based shampoo which the little blighters hate. Then use conditioner but comb hair through before rinsing the conditioner out. When the lice are wet they can't cling on to the hair.
Do this every 3 days for 15 days and you should get rid of them. It is now recommended that the insecticide shampoos are only used for a really bad infestation (more than 20 lice).
God my head itches now. Talking about them always sets it off.

I've never had them, nor has anyone I know. (I think).
I do remember more than once in school there would be a "study break" where everyone was instructed to put their heads down on the desk and just "listen to the music". (this was in elementary school, so there was no real studying).
The school nurse would come around with tounge depressors and plastic gloves and "fish" through everyone's hair. She'd then throw away the wooden stick, and write something in a notebook. It was years before I realized she was checking the whole school for lice that way.
Both my mother and all the teachers would insist that we never, ever share combs, brushes, or hair clips (barrettes, bobby pins, headbands ect.). I now know that that is one way lice travel from person to person.
Back then I was clueless as to why...always tell the kids "why". We might have had fewer outbreaks in school if we knew why. ::)

Never had them myself, but I think ALL of my 4 kids got them. The shampoo comes with a very dense little comb to scrape the eggs out, ands you should wash all the bedding in VERY hot water to kill any eggs that might have gotten into it. Fumigating the whole house is a bit extreme though. Never got the other kind either ;)

Don, I was going to mention something to that effect in my post above but refrained. :D
I did, however, have a friend when I was in high school that had them "down there", and they even have a special shampoo for those kind too. :D

LOL, I had no idea that was possible! ;D Although now that I think about it, that would be awful! Makes you wonder whether that's the reason so many guys walk around with their hands down their pants.....(Guys, absolutely no offense meant here)
I remember having lice in primary school, there was an out break in our year and I was the little girl who refused to tie her hair up (apparently you can get lice easier if you don't tie up long hair), so naturally I got them. I think there was a shampoo called KP20 or something like that to get rid of them...

My mom used to tell me about the time my dad caught "those kind" when he was in the navy. (Gee, thanks mom...TMI.) She said some other guy had them....left a few in the "rest room"....and the next fella to use the facilities caught them.
This is how moms teach their little girls not to use dirty bathrooms.
I have a different theory...but I won't go into it. ;)

I've never had the pleasure, and I hope I can be spared the experience entirely since I've made it to 37 without it! :P

Never had them, but my best friend's son got them at preschool. She had to buy the special shampoo and wash everything. The sad part was his hair...he had this adorable curly hair (he looked like a little cherub). She ended up shaving his head because he wouldn't hold still to have it combed with that little comb.
My babysitter tells her kids not to share combs, brushes or hats. She also has them put their coats and hats in their backpack at their desk instead of in the coatroom as the lice can go from coat to coat. My daughter starts school this fall and I will have to pound this idea into her head. The idea of lice makes my head itch.

I think he meant the other place or is he bald everywhere?! BWAHAHAHAHA!
Subject: Re: Another gross topic!!!
Noone in my family has ever had them (knock on wood) but I've known people who have. There was one family who had them, but didn't do anything about them, and kept on sending their kids to daycare (not the one my kids were in). Luckily the little girl never got them (she had beautiful, long, curly, blonde hair). The daycare provider was aware of the problem and did her best to keep the rest of the kids "free", but finally told the mom, after one of the babysitter's kids came down with them, that they wouldn't be allowed back until they had a dr's note stating that they were lice-free, and she had the house inspected by a "pest control specialist" stating that there were none in the house (the family who brought them to the daycare). Well, the mom refused and tried to sue the daycare provider. She lost. She said "they aren't dangerous". Needless to say, my kids will NEVER play at her house ::)
