Subject: UK's answer to mis-behaving kids on school bus...
This is UK's answer to brats on the school bus. Its actually kinda funny and pathetic at the same time.
But it begs the question: What ever happened to giving the brat a good whack on the backside and getting it over with, without being sued for felony battery? ::)
------------------------------------------------------------
From the BBC:
Bus of shame for bad behaviour
The bus known as "Pink Peril" is the Isle of Wight Crime and Disorder Partnership's answer to misbehaviour on school buses.
Niki Haytack, Crime and Disorder Manager, said: "When troublemakers get a taste of the pink medicine, they don't want a second dose."
Threatening, abusive, violent or disruptive behaviour earns offending youngsters a ticket on the bus of shame. The Pink Peril, or bus number 283, is the oldest vehicle in the Southern Vectis fleet.
The heating has been deliberately taken out to provide cold comfort to transgressors.
Ms Haytack said: "Parents and teachers are fully supportive of the 'punishment bus' and parents say they have seen a change in the youngsters who previously misbehaved.
"Also, this is not about punishment, it is about managing the behaviour of a disruptive minority.
"It means that the majority of children who are well-behaved can travel to and from school in peace and safety."

We could like hijack one of those pink buses and drive around to find rare versions of Everly Brothers memorabilia. That would be cool 8) I dont wanna ride the bus, but I wouldn't mind hijacking it and causing an uproar lol ;D
Subject: Re: UK's answer to mis-behaving kids on school bus
This story has been in all the British newspapers. Apparently it's been a big success in reducing violent and disruptive behaviour on the school buses. The miscreants (predominantly teenage boys) are embarrassed to be seen in the pink bus as it is seen as a very "uncool" colour. They duck their heads down under the windows so their friends cannot see them on it.
Any incidents of misbehaviour on the journey home on the Pink Peril are punished by stopping the bus for 5 minutes per incident. This means they all get home late. Morning incidents generate extra 5 minutes on the home journey. Also, the bus has old, uncomfortable seats and no heater. If the deterrent effect of the bus starts to wane with time, the plan is to introduce the ultimate deterrent - piped classsical music!
When troublemakers are banned from the normal buses for bad behaviour, they aren't forced to ride the Pink Peril. They have the option to walk, take a taxi or get their parents to bring them by car. However, parents have apparently been FORCING their kids to ride it as they see it as a good deterrent against repeat behaviour. I think it's a great idea!
Subject: Re: UK's answer to mis-behaving kids on school bus
I'm sure there are a few who think it's "cool", though. You know the kind, the ones who enjoy the attention their behavior gets them and compete with others to see who can get in the most trouble without getting suspended (I used to know a few guys like that). I think it's funny, though. Maybe they should paint big daisies or ladybugs on it to make it more obnoxious ;D
Subject: Re: UK's answer to mis-behaving kids on school bus
I like it. I'm surprised the parents support it. If it was here in the U.S. I don't think the parents would support it. Instead they would probably sue or do something pathetic.
Not my kid, my kid is wonderful. Don't you dare punish my kid.
This is the attitude of alot of parents nowadays. Wonder why our society in going to hell.

you're probably right.
They would probably say their "little angel" suffered mental anguish and embarassement by riding the pink bus, causing him to be unable to function normally for the rest of his life. ::)
Sad thing is, I'm sure there are plenty of lawyers that would take the case too.

oh thats an easy one.
1. no personal responsiblity anymore thus no one is held accountable for anything anymore, making everyone belive they are a "victim".
and
2. Too many damn lawyers! >:(
Subject: Re: UK's answer to mis-behaving kids on school bus
Actually, if it was one of MY kids, I'd make them ride the bus for the rest of the year, not just however long the school made them. I'd also make it a requirement for them to sing something like "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" or some other equally horrible song. Then again, I'm a "bad mommy" ;D ;)
Subject: Re: UK's answer to mis-behaving kids on school bus
y' never know, perhaps they could get their children to walk to school instead. Lazy gits :D
Subject: Re: UK's answer to mis-behaving kids on school bus
I would also force them to wear a pink hat too. And give them a ferry wand while you are at it. I have a suspicion that 14 year old boys want to have 14 year old girls to go out with, and the pink bus ain't helping. This is a good idea. If we had a pink bus like that when I was young, I never would have gotten into trouble.
