Subject: What song was #1 on the day you were born?

Written By: Princesa on 05/11/03 at 06:25 p.m.

I posted this link in a reply on the 80s board and Shaz suggested I start a thread with it so I'm posting it here since the songs will span all decades.

The #1 song on the day I was born in the US was "Mickey" by Toni Basil.

The #1 song in the UK the day I was born was "Beat Surrender" by The Jam ??? I've never heard it.

What kind of music did they do? Do they have a New Wave sound>? I like a lot of New Wave stuff. I'll download the song later when I have more time. I feel like I'm the only person in the world who still has a dial up connection >:(

Their stuff is kinda indie I guess - it may, just slightly fit into on end of the new wave genre. The Jam were very big in England - but Beat Surrender is no way their greatest song. It's probably a little 'pop-ier' than their other songs. If you've seen Billy Elliot - you'd recognise the song 'Town Called Malice' from the scene where he is dancing in the street - that song is great, definitly worth getting :) I'd also recommend:

Start
Going Underground
Absolute Beginners
Just Who Is The 5 o'clock Hero?
Eton Rifles

(I'm a bit of a fan :))
