I agree it almost make you want to know all about the plane you are flying in, how old it is, when was the last maintenece check was, etc.

Don't worry, I'm sure those people lost conciousness the instant they were blown out of the plane. And remember it is being blown out, not "sucked out". The pressure inside the plane blew them out. It was a quick and painless death, even if they were falling through the air for a couple of minutes, simply because they would not have been concious when they hit the ground.

True. At that altitude, the plane broke off in pieces and the outside surroundings at those heights are depressurized (not to mention extremely cold!). Those guys must have been conscious for seconds and then blacked out during their fall.

Statistically riding on a bus or train is far more dangerous.

:(Well,it did happen in Africa, and it was a cargo plane carrying soldiers and their wives and children.many people in Africa fly in cargo planes because it's cheaper than a passenger plane. It probably hasn't been maintained as much as an American plane would have been.

This is true, but most people tend to blank it out. How often do you hear about a plane crash where the plane was totaled but everyone escaped with minor injuries?
Not at all would be my bet. And if they do it is usually a small one- or two-person plane.
Yet we always hear on the news about a 20 car pile up on the interstate with "only one fatality" or "no one was seriously injured".
It gives a skewed sense of safety.

That's nothing compared to the millions of people who have died in that country from starvation, torture, conflict and disease since the civil war there. Interesting that this minor tragedy made the news and the rest of the country's drama causes barely a ripple.
