Having grown up in New England, just a few miles from the Maine/New Hampshire border, and having been in the White Mountains several times, finding this out today came as a major shock:

Having lived in NH for most of my life, it is indeed sad to lose something that is so symbolic to our state. I have been to Franconia Notch many times and the Old Man was quite a sight. Our state will miss him.
