Subject: How many Tax Day procrastinators do we have here?

I'm just curious, how many of you waited until today to file your taxes?

Not me. :-/  We owed a crapload of $$$ this year, so we just paid it ASAP, so it wouldn't bite us in the a$$ later. ::)

We had ours done on Valentine's Day.  Then again, hubby always likes to get them done as quickly as possible so he can spend the $$. ::)

same here. :D

I filed on January 25 and got my refund 2.5 weeks later.

I always like to get it done early and get it out of the way.

We like to do ours early, but if we have to pay we normally wait until 4/15.  We paid the federal in March and just received our refund from the state Friday.

Well, I had a Fed return and got it done in early February.  Went with Intuit's Turbo Tax, which nearly killed  Windows95.  There's something funky and insidious about that program.  Very convenient, though.

I still haven't done the state tax, but I'm getting a return and they don't care if it's late.  I'm getting about $105 back, so I'm not in that big of a hurry to get it done.

If you did it online, it would have calculated the state for you ;)

For an extra $30 or so.  I would have had to buy a second disk to do the state.

This probably the 10th time out of 12 that I have waitied until the last minute to file my taxes. What worse, I lost my W-2s and my federal tax forms. On the bright side, I usually do Tele-file, so I hope i can finish my info and call by tonight's deadline. (Knock wood. ::))

Not this little black duck !

The tax structure in my country is such that you get overtaxed each pay if you are a standard Pay-As-You-Earn salaried employee with no other income or deductions.

Therefore as soon as possible (which in the case of Aus, where our financial/tax year is July to June) it's straight to the Tax Office with the refund request  :)

In my case, I work in the Payroll office for my employer, and I have to literally send the tax to the ATO (IRS) each fortnight (including my own tax).  I find that concept particularly ironic (not to mention obnoxious  ;D) so my aim is get it back ASAFP !

Dont worry FussB - we are currently testing a new system in WA and SA that is similar to the Singapore method.

People with basic returns - ie one groups cert/payt summary and no deductions - can lodge by phone via simple IVR and Dialtone technology.

Refunds are direct deposited within 8 days.

It went well in the test states for the past two years so it will likely be Aust wide this year.

I use Etax - the free download - have done for 4 years - and its nice and simple and easy to use and I got my refund in 6 days.  I usually wait till mid season - around Aug or Sept.

The Singapore system is eventually where we will head with the "basic" returns.  It works in that all workers are taxed correctly.  They only have to lodge a return if they have deductions or business income.

It will cut down on approx 14million returns being lodged each year.

That sounds good - as a Payroll person I gotta admire a woman who knows what a Payment Summary is !  ;)

Everybody still speaks in the old money "Group Certificate"  ::)

Nah I am the enemy of all BAD tax payers.
I deal with company debts over $500,000.  And they are bad bad directors who havent paid their staffs PAYG and Super.  So I have no qualms whatsoever about spending my days winding the companies up and bankrupting the directors.

The decent ones never have need to hear from me :)
