Subject: Counting Crows
Written By: Davester on 04/02/03 at 09:04 p.m.
I've been hearing this groovy, toe-tapping little tune on the radio for awhile and only recently found out it was "Big Yellow Taxi" by the Counting Crows (Adam Duritz's voice should have been a giveaway...). I had never cared for this group in the past but their music has grown on me, somewhat.
Question: Should I bother purchasing their CDs?

I don't like a lot of their music, but that's just me. They have some good songs here and there IMO. The new one, Big Yellow Taxi, is good, but could do without Vanessa Carlton. :-/

Yes. You could buy their CDs if you want to.
Counting Crows is an excellant band.
Despite that I'm not much of a fan, but they have great songs like "Round Here" & "Mr. Jones" (from "August and Everything After") & "A Long December" (from "Recovering The Satellites").

I am a huge fan of the Counting Crows, though I usually hate this kind of music. August and Everything After is the album that got all the acclaim, but I'd actually start with their third album This Desert Life. (This may be because I absolutely hate "Round Here.")
Good songs by the Counting Crows:
Einstein on the Beach
Mrs. Potter's Lullaby
Angels of the Silences
Mr. Jones
Anna Begins
Hanginaround
American Girls
High Life

I never cared much for their sound, either, but I thought "Round Here" wasn't too bad. :-/ I haven't heard their new album.

I've always liked this group and was kind of mad at myself for missing them when they rolled through town a few months ago. They were touring with Toad The Wet Sprocket.
I bought their first two albums, so I can't comment on their newer material, but if I had to buy one album it would be August And Everything After.
Favorite songs from that album:
Perfect Blue Buildings
Sullivan Street
Omaha
Favorite songs from Recovering The Satellites:
Goodnight Elisabeth
Daylight Fading

Counting Crows are awesome! In my opinion the best album of the nineties is August and Everything After which in my opinion includes two of there best songs "Rain King" and "A Murder of One".

They are ok, nothing great. IMO
They sound like all the others.
To be honest, I didn't even know they were still around.

When I first heard Big Yellow Taxi, I thought it sounded familiar because Amy Grant and Joni Mitchell origianally recorded it. I haven't heard JM's version, but I heard AG's version.

Don't like their version of Big Yellow Taxi, prefer Joni Mitchell's, however, "Mr. Jones" is a great song.

Whatever album you get make sure it's got Raining In Baltimore on.
